OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Duties and requirements
Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning and the supervision of the Chief Programme Coordinator, the incumbent will act as Head of Publications and contribute to the implementation of the programmes of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning.
The incumbent in particular will:
  • Conduct UIL’s publishing programme;
  • Manage relations with partners and networks in order to enhance efficient and increased use of UIL’s publications;
  • Manage and supervise the Publications team, including interns and external service providers;
  • Oversee the editing of the Institute’s journal, International Review of Education (IRE), and the reporting to the journal’s editorial board;
  • Manage the peer-review process for publications;
  • Edit strategic English-language material; and
  • Provide general language support.
  • undertake further activities in the framework of the programme as requested by the Chief Programme Coordinator or the Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
  • Advanced University degree (Master’s or equivalent degree) in the field of education, social and human sciences, public relations or a related field that focuses on an area relevant to lifelong learning. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • You must have at least five years’ professional experience.
  • You will have experience in commercial and academic publishing; you must have expert writing and editing skills.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
  • You should have good leadership and interpersonal skills;
  • You must be able to work effectively in international, interdisciplinary and multilingual teams
  • You are proficient in MS Office
LANGUAGES
  • You have very good command of English, and preferably also of French

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
  • A PhD degree or equivalent in education, the social sciences or public relations is desirable
LANGUAGES
  • A strong command of one of the other UNESCO languages.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Type of contract: Service Contract (Only candidates with residency and work permit for Germany can apply for this post)
Level of contract: L5
Remuneration: 60,000 EUR (Gross yearly salary in Euros)
Duration: 12 months (with possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance)
