Context:
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, the Public Information Intern will be
responsible for public information in the mission.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Keep abreast and knowledgeable of ongoing projects
- Prepare quarterly newsletters
- Provide updated press releases
- Coordinate information dissemination activities and advocate for, the mission’s projects among key stakeholders
- Keep project info sheets up-to-date
- Plan, organise and raise awareness for IOM events such as International Migrants Day and I am Kigali events
- Provide updates of the mission’s social media accounts, using content from colleagues and form own creation
- Represent IOM by being an active member of the UN Communications Group and support One UN activities
- Visit project sites/activities for publicity/visibility purposes
- Maintain the PI and Photography folders on the department server
- Provide information to keep IOM global and regional websites updated on activities of the mission
- Liaise with the HQ and Regional IOM Public Information staff
- Respond to media requests following IOM guidance and after consultation with COM
- Support the programme staff in their reporting requirements (editing and proof-reading, etc.) to ensure consistency across the whole mission
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Education
- University degree in Communication/Journalism or alternatively, combination of related education and professional experience (including desktop publishing)
Experience
- A minimum of three years of experience working in international organisation in a communication/PI or reporting role
- Knowledge of IOM’s work an asset
- Advanced knowledge of the following Microsoft Windows programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook and FrontPage
- Advanced knowledge of the following Adobe Products (or equivalent): Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premier Pro and After effects
- Maintains confidentiality and discretion in appropriate areas of work
- Accuracy in handling and reporting data
- Ability to be thorough - read, understand and apply written instructions and guidelines; interpret instructions and resolve work related problems; and keen on details (detect input/output errors).
Languages
Fluency in English and French is required. Working knowledge of French and Kinyarwanda is an
advantage.
