ABOUT TuaRes:

TuaRes Foundation (www.tuares.org) promotes access to and quality in girl education, mostly in Burkina Faso, West Africa. We support vulnerable girls with the economic means to pursue an education. We also provide tuition classes and psycho-social support. Our girls receive life skills, IT and English training. Some of them will be enrolled in professional training or university scholarship programs. Since its creation in 2012, TuaRes has promoted the education of 6,420 girls and young women and continues to grow dynamically. We have built a team of twelve persons in Burkina Faso and four persons in Munich. TuaRes combines a grass-roots approach with a systematic, impact-oriented methodology. TuaRes is interested in innovation within education projects, particularly digital innovation.
To complete our team in Burkina Faso, West Africa, we are looking for a

Chief Operating and Administrative Officer (COO), West Africa

JOB PROFILE

Your responsibilities will be:

In this newly created position, you will work closely with the national directors of TuaRes in our country organisations and the foundation's program managers. You report directly to the founder and CEO of TuaRes Stiftung.
Specifically, this means:
  • You are responsible for the activities of TuaRes in Burkina and other West African countries as a whole. You manage the West African organizations on behalf of TuaRes Stiftung.
  • You represent TuaRes in the local context together with our national director in Burkina Faso (and potentially of other Western African countries).
  • You, together with the other team members, continue developing the strategy and activities of TuaRes Burkina Faso / West Africa, and develop new activities in other West African states
  • You plan and overlook all operational, financial and personnell activities of TuaRes in Burkina Faso / West Africa.
  • You monitor and manage the Foundation's operational projects. You are responsible for project controlling and reporting. You ensure the continuous improvement of the processes and work within the team to achieve the best possible success for our target group, disadvantaged girls.
  • You manage and motivate the TuaRes team in Burkina Faso / West Africa.
  • You are responsible for the budget and finances of TuaRes Burkina Faso / West Africa. You ensure the integrity of internal processes.
  • You report to TuaRes Stiftung, Munich, and provide full transparency on the situation of TuaRes Burkina / West Africa.

What we expect:

  • You share our enthusiasm and commitment to TuaRes' goal: to give disadvantaged young girls an opportunity to live a better life through education.
  • You have an academic degree in a subject relevant to the work of TuaRes, e.g. social sciences, economics, educational sciences, ethnology, development studies.
  • You have at least 8 years of professional experience, of which at least 3-5 years in Africa, preferably in Burkina Faso. Your professional experience covers development work or work in the education sector or any another relevant sector
  • You have leadership experience in an African context and have a good understanding of the cultural background of West Africa, especially Burkina Faso.
  • You understand the requirements of a modern NGO that combines passion and commitment with professionalism and transparency. You work systematically, thoroughly and reliably.
  • You like to work in an international team and are open to innovation.
  • You speak proficient French and at least one of the following two languages: German, English.
  • You are willing to and interested in living in Burkina Faso for several years.
