I. TechnoServe Background:
TechnoServe works with enterprising people in the developing world to build competitive farms, businesses and industries. We are a nonprofit organization that develops business solutions to poverty by linking people to information, capital and markets. Our work is rooted in the idea that given the opportunity, hardworking men and women in even the poorest places can generate income, jobs and wealth for their families and communities. With more than four decades of proven results, we believe in the power of private enterprise to transform lives.
II. Program Description:
Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa with the largest population, so from an impact standpoint, this is one of TechnoServe's most promising geographies. Despite the news stories about Boko Haram and corruption, Nigeria has a vibrant and rapidly growing private sector and is a strategic market for global consumer goods companies, with whom TechnoServe is partnering to drive inclusive development. In addition, TechnoServe has a strategic relationship with several federal ministries, which provides a platform to realize national impact.
TechnoServe has over a decade of practical experience in Nigeria. In the 1990s, the organization supported farmer organizations in developing aquaculture, livestock and other agribusiness opportunities. With operations officially re-established in Nigeria in 2010, TechnoServe is now implementing a number of programs to help raise farmer incomes and yields in the cocoa, cashew, cassava and other key industries.
