USAID Bureau for Food Security Service Center (FSSC) Project

Social Impact (SI) is a Washington, DC-area international development management consulting firm. We provide services globally in the areas of monitoring and evaluation, strategic planning, project and program design, organizational capacity building, and gender and social analysis. SI services cross-cut all development sectors including democracy and governance, health and education, the environment, and economic growth. SI’s clients include US government agencies such as USAID, theMillennium Challenge Corporation, the US Department of State, bilateral donors, multilateral development banks,foundations, and non-profits.
Project Objective:
Feed the Future (FTF), the U.S. government’s global hunger and food security initiative, focuses on sustainably reducing hunger and poverty worldwide. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Bureau for Food Security (BFS) leads the initiative. Through the provision of a broad, integrated, and knowledge-driven suite of expert technical services, the BFS Service Center (Service Center/FSSC) Contract will complement existing BFS support to provide USAID Missions, USAID/Washington, other USG operating units, and host country counterparts targeted support to move the President’s agenda forward. The contract will enable BFS to provide short- and longer-term expertise for state-of-the-art food security support services and analyses; capacity building; and expert analysis and integration of cross-cutting issues that are critical to the success of FTF and also provide a mechanism for bridge programming and pilot innovations.
Position Description:
As prime contractor for the FSSC, SI seeks Mid to Senior-level Specialists to provide short-term consultant technical assistance in a variety of technical areas. Work would depend on the needs that arise from USAID and the FSSC project.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical assistance in the following technical areas:
  • Agricultural Production (Livestock, Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Soil Science, Entomology).
  • Agricultural Economics (Value Chain Analysis, Marketing, Trade Facilitation).
  • Gender.
  • Nutrition.
  • Climate Smart Agriculture.
  • Policy Analysis and Legislation Drafting.
  • Resilience.
  • Capacity Building & Training.
Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in relevant field.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in international development; minimum five years working in a development country context for Senior-Level Specialist.
  • Minimum five years of relevant work experience in international development; minimum three years working in a development country context for Mid-Level Specialist.
  • Experience in impact and performance evaluations, including but not limited to, components of evaluations, assessments, qualitative research, surveys and data collection, cost analysis and effectiveness, feasibility studies, assistance with monitoring plans and indicators, technical training, knowledge dissemination and public outreach and performance management.
  • Previous experience with USAID or donor-funded programs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; and proficiency in written and spoken English.
