MONITORING AND VERIFICATION DATA SPECIALIST
International Business and Technical Consultants Incorporated (IBTCI) is currently implementing a 5-year USAID-funded project, Somali Program Support Services (SPSS). The primary goal of SPSS is to provide ongoing monitoring, verification and evaluation support to the USAID/East Africa/Somalia Office. As part of the monitoring and verification functions, SPSS verifies program activities of USAID/Somalia’s implementing partners, using about 18 tools in several program areas.
IBTCI is seeking to recruit an experienced Monitoring and Verification (M&V) data specialist for the Monitoring and Verification (M&V) team based in Nairobi. The M&V data specialist provides technical and administrative support to the M&V team as they prepare for and conduct verifications, in designing the data management system, data entry, processing basic statistical analyses and preparing charts and visual data representations for reporting. This is a critical position and the successfully candidate is expected to be highly experienced in managing multiple and complex data sets, generating high quality outputs for report writing.
Key roles and responsibilities:
  • Design data entry screens for different tools on SPSS, Epi data, Excel or any other appropriate data management program (defined by SPSS) that facilitates capture, storage and analysis of monitoring data.
  • Enter data from all complete tools in the system and conduct basic data quality checks
  • Prepare basic frequency analysis and cross tabulations for the different data sets
  • Familiarization with the data management platform and provision of remote support to Third Party Monitoring (TPM) firms’ field monitors in collecting data on mobile phone devices in Somalia
  • Conduct descriptive statistical analysis of data on the various data sets as may be requested from time to time.
  • Provide in-house capacity building on the use of relevant data management software to SPSS staffs.
Qualifications
  • Degree in information technology, statistics, social science or humanities discipline or any other data related discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ direct experience in data management work using different data management software, including SPSS, Excel, Epi-Info, Stata etc.
  • Strong skills in analysis of quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Practical experience in navigation of databases.
  • Basic understanding of monitoring and evaluation concepts and practices
  • Ability to work under tight time constraints and with strong attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
