Under the overall authority of the IBE Director and the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Specialist responsible for Support Services to Member States, the incumbent will carry out the following tasks:
- Contribute to manage, follow-up and assess the impact of technical assistance to Member States with regard to the design, development and implementation of balanced and responsive curricula within a lifelong learning perspective and across levels of the education system;
- Contribute to the production, discussion and validation of guidelines, frameworks and prototypes for the development of responsive curricula as well as to the development and assessment of learners’ competencies acquired through such curricula;
- Contribute to the production, discussion and validation of guidelines, frameworks and prototypes for developing curricula – with a focus on ECCE, Basic Education and Inclusive Education- and integrating them into existing curricula and the syllabus;
- Conduct applied research as well as participate in broad consultations with stakeholders – ministries of education (education policy makers, curriculum developers/specialists, supervisors, principals, educators, teacher trainers, researchers, etc.), universities, social sectors, civil society and development partners - on needs, issues, trends, strategies and effective practices relating to the development of inclusive curricula for ECCE and Basic Education;
- Contribute to the production of thematic modules as add-ons to IBE Curriculum Resource Packs (CRP) encompassing critical and current curriculum issues in order to support training through the IBE-UNESCO diploma and masters courses on curriculum and learning and other capacity-development activities;
- Participate as trainer/facilitator in the diploma/masters courses, customized workshops and any other capacity-development related activities; and
- Assist in any other activity relating to the IBE focus area “Innovation and Leadership in Curriculum, Learning and Assessment” and contribute effectively to the broader scope of the work of the IBE.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Advanced University Degree (Masters level or equivalent) in Education, Curriculum, Pedagogy or relevant fields
Work Experience:
- 4 to 7 years of progressively responsible relevant experience in ECCE / Basic Education;
- Solid experience in curriculum design, development and implementation;
- Proven operational experience in articulating ECCE within its levels and with Basic Education;
- Proven experience in conducting consultation and collaboration with MoEs, universities, social sectors, civil society and global development partners; and
- Proven experience in supporting countries in implementing processes of curriculum renewal, design and development and with a focus on ECCE / Basic Education.
Skills/Competencies:
- Thorough knowledge of and advanced technical competence in the field of international education, with a particular focus on ECCE/basic education;
- Excellent critical and analytical skills; ability to identify and solve problems;
- Excellent communications skills: both oral and written;
- Good interpersonal skills; ability to interact with a wide range of education stakeholders and partners;
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment;
- Excellent planning and time management skills; ability to work under pressure, organize and complete complex projects and meet tight deadlines;
- Good understanding of the mechanisms of education systems and curriculum matters;
- Good IT skills, particularly MS Word and other editorial management programmes.
Languages: Fluency in English and good knowledge of French.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Good understanding of UNESCO main priorities and strategic vision;
- Good knowledge of the IBE initiatives and activities would be an asset;
- Good knowledge of Arabic or Spanish.

UNESCO’s salaries are calculated in US dollars and exempt from income tax. They consist of a basic salary and a post adjustment which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station and exchange rates.
