Chief of party

Chemonics seeks a chief of party to manage the anticipated five-year, USAID-funded President's Emergency Plan for AIDS project, Supporting an AIDS Free Era (SAFE) in Zambia. SAFE will provide assistance to the government of Zambia to deliver and scale integrated and comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment services. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
  • ​Provide overall strategic project leadership, management, and technical direction on SAFE
  • Serve as the key and primary project liaison with USAID/Zambia, local partners, and government counterparts including the Zambian Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Community Development and Mother and Child Health
  • Supervise project personnel and subcontractors
  • Ensure all project assistance is technically sound and appropriate
  • Create and implement a strategic, long-term programmatic vision in collaboration with team
  • Oversee project work planning, performance management, and strategic communications
Qualifications:
  • ​A medical degree or a master's degree or higher in public health, social sciences, or a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of work experience in direct service delivery for HIV/AIDS, systems strengthening, and/or health financing with progressively increasing responsibility
  • Leadership skills, including facility for working and interacting collaboratively with central and local government, host country institutions, civil society, international organizations, and other donors
  • Documented experience in providing a level of technical assistance similar in nature to that required for the SAFE scope of work
  • An appropriate balance of technical, managerial, and interpersonal skills and a deep understanding of the SAFE project's work
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and oral and written communication skills
  • Relevant experience in similar settings and with projects of similar size and scope, with significant management responsibility, including relevant supervisory experience of professional staff
