Expert for Logistics in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Expert for Logistics in the Democratic Republic of Congo
The post is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial term ending 31 December 2015. The office is located in Beni, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Objectives and responsibilities of the position
As Expert for Logistics, you are responsible for organising and implementing procurement and warehouse activities at the Beni location within the specified organisational, scheduling, contractual and financial guidelines.
Your most important duties are as follows:
  • Ensure orderly material resources planning in coordination with the project managers at the locations and the project administrators
  • Transport management (air and road transport)
  • Support and advise national staff with regard to logistics issues
  • Implementation of security analyses on location, and regular organisation of security training for project personnel
  • Management and maintenance of technical equipment, inventory
  • Ensure functioning communication between base and fleet vehicles
  • Establishment and supervision of warehouse management of relief items and other materials (incoming/outgoing, regular stock-taking, fresh supplies)
Your qualifications will include:
  • A university or polytechnic degree in development cooperation/humanitarian aid/focus on logistics, or qualifications that are commensurate with this position
  • Several years of project and coordination experience in carrying out emergency aid and development projects of international (aid) agencies - preferably in the region
  • Experience in managing a workshop
  • Coordination and organisational skills - even under a high workload
  • A good command of French and English
  • Willingness to travel in the region
