OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
GENERAL FUNCTIONS
§ Support the SHQ in the planning and preparation of operations (convoys and patrols), including balancing the Force requirements with the best means of IED threat mitigation (configuration, duration, timing, prioritization, resources);
§ Support the SHQ in field studies (Intelligence Preparation of the Environment) to inform on the evolution of IED threats;
§ Bring practical experience in convoy and escort planning in IED threat environments, including adapting to mitigate threats as they evolve;
§ Support the SHQ in the process of reporting and lessons learned.
§ Other tasks as directed by the Project Manager and Chief of Operations.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Education:
§ Advanced University Degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or a First Level University Degree (Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent) with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is required; or Military Experience (or relevant Police Experience) at the Officer level or Warrant Officer/Senior NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
Experience:
§ Minimum of 5 years’ experience as HQ Staff Officer;
§ Staff College awarded or with equivalent experience at HQ level;
§ Mandatory operational experience in IED threat environment(s); experience in Africa desirable
§ Desirable knowledge in CIED
§ Proven experience of Quality Management processes is an advantage.
Language:
§ French native speaker and working level knowledge of English working skills.
Other skills:
§ Demonstrated capability of operational planning and rapid decision-making (with little margin of error), under conditions of extreme stress.
§ High standard of physical fitness.
§ Internationally recognized driving license
§ Knowledge of UN systems and UNOPS procedures as desirable
§ Computer literacy, in particular the use of MS Office
