DanChurchAid (DCA) is looking for a Project Coordinator of Armed Violence Reduction for its Humanitarian Mine Action programme in Bangui, CAR. DCA is offering a job that will make a difference and improve the lives of people living at risk from Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) and Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW), and assist in the reconstruction of local communities after conflict.
In October 2015, DCA will launch its first community based Armed Violence Reduction project in CAR with the overall aim of contributing to the stabilization efforts and establishing foundations for sustainable peace in conflict affected parts of CAR.
Specifically the project aims to:
- Reduce threats to a life in safety and dignity caused by the presence of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) and Explosive Remnants of War (ERW)
- Build the capacities of communities to analyse the risks and threats they face related to armed violence and identify, implement, monitor and evaluate their own risk-reducing strategies. We call this approach Safer Community Planning.
The AVR Project Coordinator will refer to the Programme Manager (PM) of DCA CAR and maintain regular contact with the AVR focal point at DCA HQ.
Responsibilities:
- The AVR project coordinator will be responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of DCA’s AVR project in CAR.
- Management of a team of 12 dedicated community liaison officers and one national coordinator, in close cooperation with the support staff in Bangui office.
- Ensure that the teams perform according to our high quality standards and have the neessary competencies to address key risk-reducing priorities in affected communities. This implies regular quality assurance, assessment of training needs and planning and carrying out regular trainings and refresher trainings.
- Develop new and innovative community activities aimed at increasing community security and assist DCA in raising funds for future AVR activities.
- Responsibility for developing and implementing DCA CAR's SALW awareness strategy and contributing to enhancing DCA CAR's visibility in general through different communication and information tasks.
Applicants are expected to have the following qualifications and personal qualities:
- Relevant bachelor's or master's degree (i.e. social sciences, political sciences, international development, or other relevant subject)
- Essential: Fluency in spoken and written French and English
- At least 2 years working experience with project coordination in international development work.
- Familiarity with Armed Violence Reduction programming and/or Small Arms and Light Weapons awareness raising.
- The project approach is based on a firm policy of partnerships and participation of civil society, and it is therefore important that the Candidate is familiar with participatory processes in an international development context.
- Sound judgment, professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Self-confident and action-oriented and capable of analysing, planning, making decisions and reporting independently, yet with due respect to established lines of command and commitments to DCA's donors and beneficiaries.
- Proven skills in inspiring, motivating, guiding and managing teams.
- Capable of managing high administrative and programmatic pressures.
- Proven ability to understand and adapt to local customs and cultural settings
- Ability to handle insecure environments and to travel to field
