Communications Specialist
Institutional donors and themes (36 hours)
Head Office, The Hague
Oxfam (Novib) is an A-brand in the world of development co-operation. Our mission is to achieve a just world without poverty. We believe in the power of people’s own actions and want to see results. Together with local partner organizations and other Oxfams in over 90 countries, institutional donors, businesses, governments and the Dutch public, we help millions of people to build an independent livelihood.
Goal of the position
Oxfam (Novib)’s brand and reputation contribute greatly to the realisation of our goals. We are looking for a Communications Specialist who will develop and implement a communications strategy for institutional donors and programs on priority themes. This position is new in the organization.
Over the past years institutional donors have become a more and more important source for financing our work. Our donors range from EU and UN institutions and governments to corporate foundations. The unit Institutional Fundraising & Donor Relations (IFDR) maintains our relations with these donors. The Communications Specialist advises IFDR on the contribution of communication to intensify the relationship with institutional donors, reinforcing their interest and loyalty, and coordinates the implementation.
The IFDR unit closely cooperates with our four Thematic Units (TU): Food, Land & Water; Conflict & Fragility; Gender & Youth; and Governance & Financial Flows. These units provide the essential knowledge for project and programs proposals that transcend borders. The Communications Specialist advises the priority TU programs on the brand and communications approach, coordinates the implementation, and contributes to project monitoring, evaluation and learning. The element of communications in proposals also requires advice, especially if donors have specific requirements for communication about the project.
Description of the Unit
Oxfam Novib has recently reorganized to respond better to changes in development cooperation. We are a project organization that places “impact, innovation and agility” centre stage in its operations. The Communications Specialist is part of the central unit Corporate Communication, which is responsible for the Oxfam Novib brand and its reputation, and works closely with the unit Public Engagement.
In order to stimulate integrated working and knowledge of the market and the priority themes with communication specialists, communication capacity has now also been allocated to IFDR and TU. The decentral Communications Specialists can better offer their ideas and views at an early stage, and be service-oriented. The manager of Corporate Communication steers this position in the line, while IFDR and TU provide the contents-related steering.
