PROJECT COORDINATOR
icipe — African Insect Science for Food and Health is a world-class research centre with a mission to alleviate poverty by ensuring food security, improving health, protecting the environment and building the capacity of researchers and communities across the developing world, through the application of insect sciences. Employing more than 500 national and international staff, icipe is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya with outposts in Ethiopia and on the shores of Lake Victoria in western Kenya. icipe has a proud reputation and history of delivering world-quality science that has made crucial contributions to African food and health policy, delivered development outcomes to rural communities, and has been at the forefront of building Africa’s biological research capacity. icipe is seeking to appoint an outstanding, dynamic and self-motivated individual to lead a major initiative targeted at reducing youth unemployment in regional Ethiopia through the application of icipe technologies in silk and honey production, direct youth outreach activities, and training in enterprise development. The selected candidate will be based at icipe’s Ethiopia office, on the ILRI campus. This is a two-year contract, renewable after successfully completing a six-month probation period of the first contract. A competitive and generous compensation package, including child education allowance up to university first degree, health and life insurance, generous pension, housing and transport allowances, duty free privileges, home leave and relocation allowances, and much more, will be offered to the right candidate. Job Description
 
The Project Coordinator will be a fundamental member of the project team responsible for directing, organising, and coordinating project activities, under the direction of icipe’s Project Team Leader. His/her main role will be to provide managerial and intellectual leadership, policy, and institutional and technical expertise.
 
Primary Responsibilities
 
  • Lead the project team and coordinate the project activities.
  • Implement the agreed action plan to the agreed standards and deadlines.
  • Ensure effective preparation and delivery of all project events and meetings, and production of all necessary documentation.
  • Responsible for the effective flow of information between project team members, participants in project activities, and regular liaison with the icipe’s head office, project partners and beneficiaries on all project- related matters.
  • Evaluation of project activities and reporting on project progress Relationship management, and reporting to project partners and stakeholders.
Requirements/Qualifications
  • A master’s degree in project management.
  • Five to eight (5–8) years’ experience supporting Project Managers in the delivery of development projects.
Core Competencies
  • Demonstrated experience in project planning in a donor-funded project is highly desirable.
Other desirable attributes
  •  Strong interpersonal skills.
  • A high level of professional written and verbal communication.
Reporting
This position reports to the icipe’s Project Team Leader.
 
The selected candidate should be available to start as soon as possible.
