Overview:
AIR’s Policy, Practice and Systems Change, International program seeks to enhance the capacity of developing countries to improve their quality of life through education and social development. We have worked in collaboration with local partners in more than 80 countries over the past three decades. In partnership with others, we seek to: (1) ensure children’s equitable access to all levels of education; (2) improve the quality and relevance of education; and (3) empower individuals, communities, and institutions as agents of social and behavioral change. Headquartered in Washington, DC, AIR is recruiting candidates for the position of Deputy Chief of Party for an anticipated USAID funded international education project in Egypt.
Responsibilities:
The Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) will be a member of the senior management team and provide the leadership for operational activities of the program. The DCOP will play an essential role managing and coordinating operations across program implementation areas, leading the collaborative development of program work plans, facilitating regular program reporting at the country and headquarters level, and ensuring that all contractual deadlines are met and targets achieved. The DCOP will support the COP in developing and implementing the strategic vision for the project. This individual will facilitate development of and maintain systems for project operations, including personnel and administrative procedures. The DCOP will oversee the efforts of local field staff to support cohesive program planning, monitoring, and execution, and sharing of best practices. The DCOP will work with the COP in developing strategic partnerships with various stakeholders including, USAID, local government and other partners. In the absence of the COP, the DCOP will assume full responsibility for the project. The DCOP will be based in Cairo, Egypt.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or higher in education, management, public administration or relevant field required.
- Minimum of seven years’ experience in managing USAID projects in a DCOP or similar senior capacity.
- Previous experience working in Egypt or the MENA region preferred.
- Proven leadership and management skills in overseeing a large team of local staff.
- Sound knowledge of USAID regulations and reporting requirements.
- Excellent communication skills required including fluency in English; additional language abilities in Arabic a plus.
