Deputy Country Director

It is an exciting time to join Oxfam South Sudan, as it enters the final stages of its transition to One Oxfam, merging affiliates and activities in country to provide a fully integrated programme.
The Role
The Deputy Country Director will work in collaboration with the Country Director to provide strategic leadership to develop and deliver the South Sudan country strategy. The role will be responsible for the ongoing programme planning and development, donor representation, and management and capacity building of Oxfam’s geographical programmes and technical advisory support to ensure high quality standards, in line with Oxfam’s strategies and operational plans.
A key aspect to the role will be to ensure a strong link and mainstreaming of activities between the assigned departments, maximising their performance and effective use of resources through coordination and strategic guidance. This includes, but is not limited to, gender mainstreaming, protection mainstreaming, programme accountability frameworks and humanitarian preparedness and response.
About You
To be successful you will need to have significant experience of developing and managing large programmes in complex environments, with experience of obtaining and managing large scale funding to support activities. In addition you will have a good understanding of Business Support Services and Programme Quality functions and their integration to programming. You will have strong analytical skills and the ability to think strategically, beyond the country programme context and to develop organisational awareness to link programmes to the regional and global framework.
You will be a skilled communicator with ability to influence at all levels with internal and external stakeholders. You will have strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff, and bring together diverse teams to work towards shared priorities. The ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment, and a good understanding of and experience in fast-paced and difficult contexts will be essential for this role.
Due to the programme and country context complexity, a solid working experience in South Sudan will be a strong advantage.
Duty station: The position is based in Juba with frequent travel to programme locations
