Terre des Hommes Netherlands is looking for a Country Manager to be based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with frequent travel to the field. TdH-NL East African (EA) portfolio currently includes over 100 individual projects across Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda and incorporates health, education, social economic development and child protection interventions. In late 2011, the TdH NL “Policy Paper against Child Exploitation” was approved, ensuring that “the fight against child exploitation” with a focus on child protection, became the thematic priority for the organisation. In Ethiopia, we currently support 10 projects implemented by local partners and intend to expand our activities further.
Our Ethiopian activities have been run out of our Nairobi office, but we are currently in the process of registering TdH Netherlands as a legal entity within Ethiopia, with the intention of setting up a permanent base. It is preferred that the selected candidate is currently based in Ethiopia.

Responsibilities

Commitment to TdH-NL mission and values, together with excellent managerial, entrepreneurship and fundraising skills are essential components of the post – only candidates with these characteristics need apply. For the right individual, the Country Manager post presents an exciting job opportunity with the possibility to have a positive and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable children.
  • Ensuring high quality programme implementation across the Country portfolio, providing support to local partners & implementing projects in keeping with the strategic plan of TdH-NL.
  • Project monitoring/ supervision and evaluation: Guaranteeing effective, efficient and accountable services to project partners by putting monitoring, evaluation and audit systems in place and by providing advisory services to partners.
  • Reporting: (quarterly financial/ narrative report, annual report, annual plan): Ensuring that control mechanisms and reporting mechanisms are in line with the agreed upon frameworks and meet the stringent criteria and deadlines.
  • Administration and Human Resources: Overseeing the administration, legal and Human Resource requirements of the our office and staff (after registration)
  • Capacity building of partners: Improved quality of projects and assistance to beneficiaries and sufficient quality information to the donors.
  • Networking, representation and fundraising: Identifying new funding sources and negotiate funding opportunities to support programme implementation. Building strong and effective working relationships with stakeholders on behalf of TdH-NL in Ethiopia including national government, the UN, the European Union, other (I)NGOs as well as the private sector
  • Finance and administration of the country office.
  • Safety and security.
  • Acting as the national focal point child safeguarding and ensuring the wellbeing of children supported by our projects.
  • Provide input and advice for the regional programme manager & cooperation with other country managers.
Profile
  • Minimum of degree level in sociology, development studies, child rights, health or education or related field.
  • Eight years experience in a similar position, in development cooperation.
  • Experience in Child Rights based programming.
  • Skilled in report writing, computer packages and fluency in written and oral English and Amharic
  • Excellent communication skills, team spirit and leadership qualities.
  • At least 5 years of management experience, including financial management.
  • Knowledge of programme management and working with CSOs
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to think strategically, including the ability to think beyond the country programme context
  • Demonstrated successful experience with fundraising
  • Experience with project planning, monitoring and evaluation. Knowledge of Dutch funding streams an advantage
  • Financial and administrative skills.
  • Entrepreneurial and results driven

HOW TO APPLY:
TdH NL is currently registering as a legal entity in Ethiopia. At the outset of the contract, it is probable that Terre des Hommes Netherlands will offer the selected candidate a consultancy package (comparative to our salary scales) until the registration process is completed. Once finalised, your consultancy contract will then be replaced by a formal contract as employee with TdH Netherlands.
