Division & Project Overview:
The Business Development Division provides ongoing and active management and administrative support in business development activities, which includes overseeing tracking/improving and/or actively identifying new business development opportunities and insuring that the business and proposal budgets are developed and monitored. Business Development Division also participates in proposal development and proposal writing (corporate capability statements, blurbs, and profiles for Project Proposals), including participating in recruitment of consultants and short-term program staff, identification of partners and teaming discussions and/or lead in continuous process improvement activities to improve program and business development processes.
URC is committed to enhancing the capabilities and exposure of students and graduates into the area of development, both internationally and locally within the United States, in order to deepen their development management skills. We offer semester-long internships to current Undergraduate and Graduate students on our Business Development team
Roles and Responsibilities:
The intern support various functions of the proposal development process for a wide variety of donors, e.g. USAID, CDC, Department of State, MCC, World Bank and different Foundations, for both international and domestic opportunities. The intern will assist with proposal development in a variety of technical areas related to international development, including health, education, gender, etc. This will be an excellent opportunity to develop marketable skills related to preparing bids and proposals, and to gain exposure to development contracting mechanisms. Under the guidance and leadership of Business Development Associates, Business Development Director and/or Vice President, the specific responsibilities of the Business Development Intern include the following:
  1. Assist the Business Development staff with tracking potential new business opportunities;
  2. Assist in the timely completion of relevant tasks on proposal development, including collecting and consolidating available background information and literature;
  3. As needed, support recruitment efforts, of both international consultants and host country nationals, by contacting candidates for necessary and relevant information and documentation (i.e.: Biodata Forms, CVs, writing samples) based on proposal requirements;
  4. As needed, assist with organizing meetings and conference calls with potential partners, staff, and within the BD team;
  5. Assist with necessary edits and proofreads sections of proposals, as required;
Interns may also have opportunities to attend various DC events related to their work for further career development.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Experience & Qualifications
· Currently enrolled in a graduate program. MBA or other Business-related programs highly preferred.
· Highly motivated, dynamic, detail-oriented, people-person;
· Strong multi-tasking skills.
· Ability to and experience working in a fast paced environment.
· Proficiency in Word and Excel, a must.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
· Applicants residing or attending school in the DC Metropolitan area preferred. Relocation assistance cannot be provided.
