Technical Support
• The ETU Nurse should be aware of the risks involved in working in the ETU
• Participate in trainings regarding infection control, clinical management, use of PPE, and other aspects related to care of EVD patients
• Work to provide safe and compassionate nursing care according to IMC protocols
• Ensure correct use of PPE at all times and assist colleagues with donning and doffing PPE
• Take vital signs and record in the patient file per protocol
• Assist patients in taking fluid, including IV fluids, as required or as prescribed by doctor
• Assist patients with bathing and personal hygiene. Ensure patients are comfortable, and their bedding is clean
• Call the Charge Nurse or Medical Coordinator if any medical problems arise
• Inform the Charge Nurse or burial team when a patient dies
• Collect and record data correctly according to protocols and complete all data forms as required
• Inform social work teams of the general condition of patients to inform their relatives at home
• Explain the rules and procedures of the ETU to all new patients and relatives
• Provide necessary protective gear and instructions to relatives visiting or caring for a family member
• Provide information to patients and family members regarding EVD transmission, prevention and control measures
• Attend and participate in required meetings Training and Capacity Building
• Train other nurses on ETU policies and procedures
• Train staff on the correct procedure and use of PPE
• Provide continuous mentoring and follow up to nursing staff in case managements of patients Human Resources Management
• Responsible for notifying the ETU Charge Nurse and Medical Coordinator about any problems with ETU staff and compliance with protocols
• Monitor the wellbeing of nurses and other staff and immediately report any issues to the ETU Charge Nurse and Medical Coordinator Coordination
• Coordinate all activities with the other team members such as the WASH Manager and Psychosocial Support Manager to respond to patient and family member needs
• Coordinate with other agencies for contract tracing, other outreach activities, and labs for EVD testing is required
• Work with other senior colleagues to establish corrective measures when/if problems arise
Qualifications:
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum degree as a registered nurse; preferably with a Master's in Public Health
• Minimum of 3 years of experience required, of which 1-2 years should be of developing country experience of resource-limited environment. Post-graduate qualification in infectious/tropical diseases is a plus
•Minimum of 1-2 years since last clinical practice
• Experience in overseas programs relating to primary health care, maternal and child health, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and communicable diseases
• Previous NGO experience
• Will have excellent communication skills, both oral and written in English
• Will have excellent self-motivation skills
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently in difficult environment
• Extremely flexible, willing to take on other duties/tasks and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations
• Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively
• French speaking skills are required.
