Communications Internship

by Unknown  |  at  6:33 AM

External and organisational communication, campaign management, social media, copywriting and writing articles, newsletters, pictures, and online graphics. These are just some of the exciting things you will get to work on as Communications Intern at the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF).
We are looking for a Communications Intern to join the innovative and challenging work here at WILPF for the summer and autumn of 2015. Whether you have acquired your communication skills in the classroom or in the field, joining a grassroots organisation will enable you to transfer them to a professional environment by working on real word issues.
As a member of an organisation with big ambitions and a small budget, your tasks will be exciting, diverse and stimulating. We offer a workplace where everyone's suggestions and ideas are welcome – and where teamwork and team spirit are essential.
For external communications, you will work with web editing, write articles/blog posts for our website, coordinate and contribute pieces to our newsletters, help us promote our causes on social media sites and participate in campaigns that focus on disarmament, human rights and Women, Peace and Security issues. Depending on your skills and interests, you will also have the opportunity to work with graphics, photos and video.
For organisational communications, you will work with strengthening communication between the Secretariat in Geneva and our 30 national Sections. You will edit and write internal newsletters, help us to improve our internal communication structure and coordinate global campaigns.
During your internship, you will explore different communication outlets such as brochures, banners, webinars, podcasts, and merchandise. Moreover, you will become familiar with complex issues and learn to communicate them in succinct articles.
We expect you to:
• be pursuing or intend to pursue a Masters Degree in communications, journalism, literature, or a related field;
• have strong writing, proofreading and analytical skills;
• be interested in learning, or already familiar with, web editing (esp. Wordpress and MailChimp);
• be able to meet tight deadlines;
• be able to think independently and take responsibility;
• have the desire and courage to contribute your own ideas and personality;
• be interested in WILPF’s aims and goals.
Requirements
• Fluent in English
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
• Artistic skills are a plus (video editing, photography, drawing)
The practical stuff
The full-time internship will be from 20 July 2015 until 23 December 2015.
You will work closely with our Communications Manager, who will also be your supervisor.
One day a week will be dedicated to administrative tasks, which are crucial to running the organisation.
Please bear in mind that the internship is unpaid. A cheap accommodation solution can be provided upon request. The internship is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
WILPF is an anti-war organisation with a specific focus on issues concerning women, peace and security. Read more about us onwww.wilpfinternational.organd/or follow us on our social media.

HOW TO APPLY:
If this sounds interesting to you and you wish to get practical experience in a grassroots organisation, then please send a cover letter and your CV to internship@wilpf.ch by 6 March 2015. Please write: “Communications Internship Summer/Autumn 2015” in the subject field.
We expect to conduct interviews and complete the entire process during March 2015. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
