Programme Advisor/Temporary position

The Life & Peace Institute (LPI) is an international and ecumenical centre, based in Uppsala, Sweden that supports and promotes non-violent approaches to conflict transformation through a combination of research and action. Through our field offices, we work with local partners in Kenya, Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The position is an approx. 14 month cover for the ordinary holder of the position on a full time basis starting preferably beginning of March 2015. Travel to our field programmes will be required.
Main responsibilities
· Contribute to the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the field programmes. The work includes participating in the Programme Unit’s work, writing project proposals and reports and being in direct contact with field staff;
· Provide support to LPI local staff and partners including the development of appropriate educational tools in one or several domains of conflict transformation;
· Participate directly in the implementation of the field programmes;
· Strengthening LPI’s engagement in policy work and awareness raising;
· Document the activities of LPI and its partners and share these experiences internally and externally.
Qualifications required
· Master’s degree in peace and conflict research, conflict management, political science or other relevant field;
· At least five years of experience from peace- related work;
· Good pedagogical/teaching skills;
· Field experience from the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes region;
· Significant experience of working with conflict transformation theory and practice as well as capacity to apply this in a project setting;
· Experience in policy work;
· Proven analytical skills, flexibility and ability to work as a part of a team and under stress;
· Excellent report writing skills;
· Fluency in written and spoken French and English;
· Good computer literacy in Word and Excel;
· Experience of working in an inter-cultural setting;
· Experience in safety and security management.
In addition, experience from research coordination, good knowledge of Arabic, Lingala, Somali or Amharic is considered as assets. We expect the applicants to share the vision and values of the Institute.
