Job Description:
The CICC seeks a full-time Fellow for the Asia-Pacific section of its International Secretariat, based in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Fellow will provide assistance and support to the Coalition´s Asia-Pacific Coordinator, working actively in CICC campaigns in the region, with the aim to promote ratification and implementation of the Rome Statute, engage civil society in the ICC process nationally and internationally, and increase awareness and support for international justice in the region.
Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Asia-Pacific Regional Coordinator, and overall supervision of the Deputy Executive Director the responsibilities of the Asia-Pacific Fellow will include but are not limited to supporting the ICC campaigns at the national and regional levels in the following ways:
- Ensuring the flow of information about the CICC to interested NGOs and members of the public.
- Carrying out research related to International Criminal Law and Human Rights, and monitoring political developments and human rights issues in the region, particularly but not exclusively with regards to the International Criminal Court;
- Updating country profiles for easy access when needed.
- Drafting letters, Press Releases, Aide Memoires and other documents as requested by the Regional Coordinator and the Director of Regional Programs.
- Liaising with New York/The Hague offices with regards to issues and concerns that need attention/action by members of the Secretariat.
- Assisting with the drafting and timely distribution of printed Coalition materials and publications such as The Monitor, The Bulletin, regional newsletters and other resources for seminars and other events.
- Posting of relevant information in various listservs and updating the website, in coordination with the Regional Coordinator, Regional Programs Liaison, and the Communications section.
- Supporting the Regional Coordinator in missions and outreach.
- Assisting Regional Coordinator with all necessary procedures in order to support local activities proposed by NGOs, in addition to handling with other budgetary and administrative matters.
- Assistance with the organization/logistics of special events including the Assembly of States Parties meetings and Regional Strategy meetings.
- Communicating regularly with the Regional Programs Liaison (New York office) to keep her informed of events and activities in the region.
- Any other tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree preferred, ideally with a concentration in Law, International Relations or Asian Studies/ Political Science/Social Development. Substantial coursework in International Law, Human Rights, International Affairs or related field required.
- Previous internships in these fields highly recommendable. Professional training (more than 1 year) in these fields an asset.
- Writes and speaks fluent English. Fluency in other Asian language welcomed but not required.
- Knowledge of the history, politics, and culture of Asia and the Pacific.
- Excellent research, writing and communication skills in English.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to take initiative, attention to detail, creativity, and ability to independently organize and prioritize several ongoing projects under the supervision of the Regional Coordinator and the Program Director.
- While the position is based in the Thailand, there may be some interaction with high level diplomats, government officials and representatives of intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations across the region, over the phone/ email. Tact, diplomacy, confidence and professionalism in these interactions is a must.
- Cultural sensitivity and experience in collaborating with non-governmental organizations.
- Experience with and knowledge of the United Nations system and the ASEAN/SAARC is an asset.
- Knowledge of additional language/s would be an asset.
- Ability to work with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power-point), Internet Search engines, LEXIS- NEXIS.
