Global Citizenship Fellows Program, High School Club Fellow: The Fellow will support the core functions and goals of the Volunteer and Community Partnerships Department’s UNICEF High School Program. The Fellowship is a highly-selective, full-time, 13 month program that prepares diverse, committed, and globally-minded individuals for effective leadership in public service. By helping to establish UNICEF’s domestic imprint, the Fellows exemplify the concept of the “global citizen” as someone who understands global interconnectedness, respects and values diversity, has the ability to challenge injustice and inequalities, and takes action in a way that is personally meaningful. Fellows aim to inspire their communities to take action for the world’s children by engaging local groups and cultivating awareness.
The UNICEF High School Program is a youth led initiative that partners with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to educate, advocate, and fundraise on behalf of UNICEF’s lifesaving work around the world. With over 380 clubs across the country, UNICEF High School Clubs play a vital role in working towards a day where no children die of preventable causes.
The Fellow works closely with students and advisors to support clubs and their activities. They will also help gather information, create new resources, and implement trainings. The Fellow will solicit feedback for the purposes of impact measurement and make ongoing recommendations regarding the work of club activities and the organization’s strategic plan, as it relates to the movement.
The Fellow will report to the Program Manager, Volunteer and Community Partnerships. This fellowship is located in New York City.
Core Objectives and Key Responsibilities:
· Manage and support the UNICEF High School National Council
· Edit and develop resources for the UNICEF High School Clubs
· Respond to volunteer inquiries and manage regular communication with clubs and advisors
· Utilize online marketing tools to support high school clubs and recruit new volunteers
· Vet opportunities for student and club involvement
· Support national goal setting and survey collection/analysis
· Plan and implement trainings for students to better understand and engage with UNICEF
· Participate in national partnership development leading to program growth
· Support high school clubs in executing advocacy, education and fundraising events for major campaigns, including, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF and UNICEF Tap Project.
· Mobilize volunteers to serve as global citizens and advocates for UNICEF’s work
· Manage UNICEF High School social media engagement and recruitment efforts
· Provide opportunities to highlight student fundraising, education and advocacy efforts
· Assist in tracking club revenue and expenses
· Conduct high school presentations and information sessions locally and nationally
· Collaborate with regional Fellows in supporting and engaging local high school groups and volunteers
· Assist in transitioning high school volunteers to the Campus Initiative Program
· Maintain the high school program webpage as necessary
· Other duties as assigned
Building on the work of the previous class, the fellow will:
· Explore new, and foster existing, relationships with high schools to identify opportunities for partnerships to increase awareness of UNICEF’s work
· Inspire and support youth volunteers who will engage their communities in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, the UNICEF Tap Project, mobilization when emergencies occur, and other initiatives
· Catalyze school partnerships by inspiring educators to teach students about global issues and providing a platform for children to learn about their peers worldwide through TeachUNICEF
· Represent UNICEF in the community at high school events locally and nationally
· Find creative ways to engage high school audiences nationwide
· Work with regional teams on youth, volunteer, and other activities
Periodic workshops, activities, trainings, and other professional development activities will be a part of the Fellow’s continuing education and support structure.
The Global Citizenship Fellows Program also offers:
· A deep understanding of complex, global issues facing the world’s children
· Training in UNICEF domestic initiatives, program and curriculum design, metrics and reporting, development and relationship building, group training, and consensus building
· Leadership skills development in problem-solving, volunteer engagement, community outreach, event planning, nonprofit management, communication, public speaking, creating and implementing workshops, and program management
· Hands-on project implementation experience
· Extensive personal and professional networking opportunities
Eligibility/Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a demonstrated interest in and knowledge of children’s rights and international issues, familiarity with experiential learning techniques, general volunteer management experience, as well as a commitment to public service. The ideal fellow will be a resourceful and energetic self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously. Candidate must be a team player who embraces the mission of UNICEF and the USF, and is highly motivated and enthusiastic.
All candidates must be available to start on the indicated start date (July 13, 2015), commit for the full term(through July 29, 2016).
Qualifications also include:
· Undergraduate degree and/or equivalent experience; professional or academic background in advocacy, education, civic engagement, international affairs, or related fields
· Extensive knowledge of the community for which the candidate is applying
· Experience engaging in community outreach and community education, including leadership development
· Demonstrated experience making presentations and leading trainings to small and large groups
· Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail is essential
· Must be a creative thinker with ability to proactively develop new ideas and outreach strategies
· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities while consistently meeting deadlines and working across teams
· Strong communication skills, both oral and written
· Expertise in Microsoft Office (Outlook- 2010 preferred, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
· Event planning and fundraising experience preferred
· Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekend and evening commitments and travel

Fellows will receive a taxable stipend of $30,000 for the thirteen-month Fellowship. Fellows are also eligible to enroll in the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s medical and dental plans after thirty (30) days of employment.
