Communications Internship - Kenya

WWF is seeking an intern for a 6-month assignment supporting WWF’s communications work in Africa, based in Nairobi, Kenya. For reasons relating to work permits, only Kenyan nationals may be considered for this assignment.

Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Main tasks include

  • Provide support through provision of communications materials presenting WWF’s work across Africa;
  • Assist Africa communications staff to develop and strengthen working relations with media within the region;
  • Provide support for the maintenance of a lively WWF Africa Office website, and assist with WWF’s social media presence;
  • Develop compelling stories (press releases, feature stories) that maximize readership, targeting the most strategic media;
  • Develops links with all WWF communications staff across Africa;
  • Develops links with WWF International’s Communications & Marketing Dept and key WWF offices to provide regular updates and communications materials on WWF’s Africa work.

Required qualifications, skills, competencies

  • Minimum  Bachelor’s  degree  in  Communications, Journalism  or  related  field  with  one  year experience in a similar position in an international organization/company;
  • Proven experience and track records in writing for development/conservation; web  maintenance and writing; efficient use of social media in southern contexts;
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in English and ideally French;
  • Interest and ability in video production and/or photography as well as in graphic design;
  • Computer literacy;
  • Keen interest and passion for conservation/environmental issues;
  • Cultural adaptability and sensitivity;
  • Working knowledge of WWF Network, especially WWF in Africa;
  • Self-starter, ability to work to deadlines, and initiate and lead projects;
  • Adhere to WWF’s values: Knowledgeable, Optimistic, Determined and Engaging.
