The position: The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) is recruiting a Knowledge Management and Communication Expert position who will be based in Addis Ababa and who will be a member of the LIVES Project in ILRI-Ethiopia.
General: ILRI works with partners worldwide to enhance the roles that livestock play in food security and poverty alleviation, principally in Africa and Asia. The outcomes of these research partnerships help people in developing countries keep their farm animals alive and productive, increase and sustain their livestock and farm productivity, find profitable markets for their animal products, and reduce the risk of livestock-related diseases.

The Livestock and Irrigation Value-Chains for Ethiopian Smallholders (LIVES) project is an initiative designed by ILRI, IWMI (the International Water Management Institute) and their Ethiopian partners to enhance income and gender equitable wealth creation for smallholders and other value chain actors through increased and sustained market off-take of high-value livestock and irrigated crop commodities. It will design and implement interventions to improve market orientation of semi-commercial farmers for enhanced competitiveness, sustainability and equity in value chains in four regions of Ethiopia.
Key Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:
• Contributes to the introduction of innovative knowledge management interventions at different project levels, including further development of Ethiopian Agricultural Portal and LIVES website;
• Contributes to knowledge management capacity development activities at National, regional and zonal levels;
• Be responsible for organizing and jointly implementing (with partner institutions) research on selected knowledge management interventions in consultation with the LIVES research coordinator;
• Be responsible for synthesizing knowledge management research and development results in different formats for communication to policy and decision makers, and other users;
• Be responsible for maintaining database of events and meetings attended by staff and ensuring details of the event are captured, recorded and reported accordingly;
• Assists staff in summarizing project value chain interventions using different formats;
• Be responsible for internal project communications and communications with key stakeholders using electronic newsletters and social media;
• Identifies/supervises consultants/casual staff in support of knowledge management interventions;
• Reports on knowledge management activities to partners and project management.

Minimum Base: Birr 24,376 (Negotiable depending on experience, skill and salary history of the selected candidate)
Terms of appointment: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position, initial appointment is fixed term up to 31 December 2016 with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding.
