ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Grameen Foundation is a global non-profit organization that combines microfinance, technologies, and sustainable innovation to empower the world's poorest people to escape poverty. Founded in 1997, Grameen Foundation has worked with pro-poor organizations and micro-entrepreneurs in 46 countries. At Grameen Foundation, we are dedicated to helping the world’s poor address their own unique needs. We believe that all of us desire to improve our lives, and that all of us – even the poorest among us – can reach our full potential if we are given access to the right tools and information. With roots in microfinance, Grameen Foundation has a lengthy history of developing innovative technology products and programs for the world’s poor and the organizations who serve them.
Musoni Kenya, our financial services partner, is the world’s first 100% mobile-based microfinance institution (MFI), with more than 20,000 micro-entrepreneur clients serviced by more than 100 staff in 15 branch locations. Historically Musoni has created value to customers by enabling all digital repayments through best-in-class integration with Safaricom M-PESA mobile money platform and the use of a tablet-based digital field application (DFA) by Musoni loan officers. Musoni serves both group and individual customers engaged in business and agriculture (directly and indirectly).
ABOUT THE JOB:
Grameen Foundation has partnered with a local Microfinance Institution (MFI), Musoni Kenya Ltd, to expand the uptake of the MFI’s agricultural product, Kilimo Booster. One of the key priorities to achieve this is the creation and execution of a Marketing Campaign that will grow awareness and drive product uptake across Musoni’s branch network. The Marketing campaign, associated materials and post execution review are to be specifically tailored to the needs of Musoni and the small scale farmers and agri-businesses they target.
The Marketing Consultant will be engaged at the planning phase (February 2016) and will continue to be engaged on an ongoing basis for a period not exceeding 25 days within the course of 2016. The key priority for this role is to bring expert knowledge to create a marketing strategy for the Kilimo Booster product and support the execution of that strategy in order to reach clients in rural Kenya (where Musoni branches operate). The Marketing Consultant will report to Grameen’s Project Manager, and work closely with product specialists at Grameen and Musoni in the execution of his/her tasks.
This role is open to both individual and company consultants.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Designing an effective marketing strategy for Musoni’s agricultural product, through liaison with relevant parties at Grameen and Musoni
  • Support and guide the execution of the marketing strategy
  • Create appropriate measures to evaluate the performance and impact of the marketing campaign, advising on best practice to be adopted moving forward
  • Supporting ground teams to effectively plan for various marketing activities
  • Utilization of carefully selected platforms to publicize Musoni’s product
  • Design and creation of marketing materials and distribution of content through liaison with suitable, competitively priced vendors
Qualifications:
  • Expert knowledge in the conceptualization and actualization of an effective marketing strategy targeting small holder farmers
  • An excellent understanding of marketing strategies that resonate well with small holder farmers
  • Adequately networked (radio, print, tv, merchandisers, event organizers, etc) within the local marketing industry to suitably select and utilize the most effective channels and negotiate competitive terms and rates
  • An “outside-the box” thinker who can identify and implement unique approaches to reach small scale farmers
  • Atleast 7 years’ experience creating and executing marketing campaigns, 3 of which must be in rural Kenya
  • Marketing experience with Kenya’s financial services products (desired)
  • Experience with ground activations
  • Demonstrated experience in execution of marketing campaigns for small holder farmers (strongly desired)
  • Well networked in the marketing industry
HOW TO APPLY:
Interested candidates should submit expressions of interest, containing a background of your work that is relevant to the advertised role tobnyawira@grameenfoundation.org with “Marketing Consultant” in the subject line.
