OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : Within the context of increasing momentum to eliminate NTDs, the NTD programme aims to enhance planning for results, resource mobilization and financial sustainability of national NTD programmes. In addition, the programme will strengthen government ownership, advocacy, coordination and partnerships and scale-up access to interventions, treatment and system capacity building. The main objective of this position is to coordinate integrated NTD monitoring and evaluation, surveillance and operational research. | |
Description of duties: Duties will include: 1.Support the update of the Regional NTD/M&E framework and assessment of country M&E systems; 2.Coordinate the development and implementation of Regional and Country NTD M&E plans as well as NTD mapping plans and budgets 3.Promote the use of appropriate tools and guidelines related to M&E framework in order to produce situation updates, performance scorecards and high quality technical papers and reports; 4.Support capacity building for M&E of NTDs, including data collection, NTD mapping and treatment coverage surveys, assessment of disease transmission and evaluation of NTD programme impact, as well as the use of data for action in controlling and eliminating NTDs; 5.Promote the use of the real-time information system for the timely collection and management of high quality data, as well as monitoring of NTD indicators; 6.Support the development and sharing of best practices in the use of M&E for the control and elimination of NTDs; 7.Carry out any duties requested by the supervisor. | |
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS | |
Education: Essential: Graduate degree in medicine with post-graduate degree in epidemiology, public health or health policy. Desirable: Certificate in operational health research or health statistics and use of health database | |
Skills: Extensive skills for NTD monitoring and evaluation components including: baseline mapping of Preventive Chemotherapy NTDs and burden assessment of case-management ones, monitoring PC coverage and elimination of leprosy and other skin-related NTDs, transmission assessment surveys and post - mass drug administration surveillance. Knowledge of procedures for verification of NTD elimination and certification of Guinea worm disease eradication will be an asset. Good knowledge of monitoring and evaluation systems as applied to disease control programmes is essential | |
Experience: Essential: Seven (07) years of experience in public health at international level, of which five or more years were spent in the area of the control of communicable diseases within the developing world. Field experience in working with countries to develop and implement monitoring and evaluation systems for neglected tropical diseases (NTD) in particular and disease control programmes in general. Desirable: Past experience working within the UN system as well as experience working with in Africa will be advantageous. | |
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English or French and a good working knowledge of the other. | |
Annual salary: (Net of tax) US 67 611 at single rate US 72 605 with primary dependants | Post Adjustment: 67.4 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation. |
