Senior Manager Global Employee Relations

Job Purpose

To manage all high profile employee relations cases from inception to closure across the organisation. The scope of cases will include, but not limited to; disciplinary, grievance, industrial injury and absenteeism case management, drug and alcohol testing, poor performance, legal representation and critical incident response.
To manage, facilitate and oversee the provision of a 24/7 HR Duty Manager Function to support the Emergency Response Centre (ERC) in the event of aircraft related emergencies and support for employee and their families for emergencies that occur which are outside of the normal daily functions of HR.
Responsibilities

  • Provide expert employee relations advice to line managers and HR peers to drive cases through to resolution.
  • Investigate high profile employee relations cases thoroughly to establish the facts and make the most appropriate proposal according to the circumstances. Manage escalated cases through to conclusion and ensure that these are escalated to the appropriate management level in a timely manner for a proactive response.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of agreed strategic directions of the unit in line with company values, goals and ethical aims.
  • Liaise and manage the relationship with the Legal Department, Ethics and Compliance, Security, EAMC and any other department necessary, to ensure that all incidents and cases are managed according to the recognized procedures and are complaint with the Code of Conduct and legal requirements in the appropriate country.
  • Act as HR Representative on the ERC in the event that it is activated as part of an aircraft emergency. Responsible for the escalation, co-ordination and delivery of key HR Functions within the ERC environment for the duration of the incident. Reporting to the HRLT and other senior managers on the event outcome and lesson learnt.
  • Manage and oversee the HR Duty Officer Functions, activities, actions and responses in accordance with agreed procedures for Critical Incident Management that occur in relations to Aircraft or Employee Emergencies. Act as liaison and co-ordinator when required between Security, Legal, EAMC and outside agencies when necessary in relation to Employee Emergencies.
  • Oversight of Industrial Relations including but not limited to liason with Works councils, Union Negotiations etc regarding Collective Bargaining Agreements, Contracts Negotiations, Compliance and Governance, Consultations Processes to gain agreement needed for Etihad or to assist partner airlines. Oversight of the Industrial Relations Strategy including the monitoring of creation, oversight and renewal of new or existing agreements across the global network.
  • Coach line managers and HR colleagues through complex cases to establish confidence when dealing uncomfortable and difficult issues.
  • Develop and implement SLAs/KPIs that capture both volume and quality of case work to identify areas for improvement and implement changes.
  • Manage and distribute cases to ERCiM Managers taking into account case complexity to prioritise day to day workload to ensure effective resource utilisation. Analyse case details to identify recurrent trends and make recommendations for policy and employee change programmes and training requirements.
  • Maintain an up-to-date working knowledge of local labour law to identify how forthcoming changes may affect current work practices and make changes or recommendations to maintain governance and compliance.
  • Develop service delivery and team knowledge on a continual basis to ensure a strong focus on delivering a proactive professional and cost effective service.
  • Advise, Consult and Manage changes to policies, employment contracts and other HR related documents to ensure that they remain legal and fit for purpose
  • Report to HRLT on case management, critical incidents and any other matters that require senior management level awareness and involvement.
Requirements

Qualification & Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business related discipline
  • Masters degree in related field preferred
  • Professional HR post-graduate certification - CIPD
Experience:
  • At least 10 years’ front line HR experience with a strong track record of managing complex employee relations cases, or which at least three years should be at management level. Some exposure to Critical incident management, Emergency Planning, Emergency Response would be an advantage.
Training & Knowledge:
  • Good Understanding of UAE Labour Law
  • Working knowledge of UK/EU/GCC/ Employment Legislation
  • Understanding of Employment Law practices in other countries that Etihad operates in
  • Excellent standard of written and spoken English
  • Able to identify and manage risk
  • Able to manage conflicting demands and deadlines
  • Resilience to work cases through to conclusion
  • Strong persuasion and influencing skills
  • Confident to challenge senior management appropriately.
  • Able to think beyond an immediate situation and develop contingency plans
  • Some knowledge of Emergency Planning or Critical Incidence Management.
