Job Description:
In order to facilitate and to maximise the impact of the humanitarian operations financed by the Commission in West Africa, the expert will appointed to the post of humanitarian Technical Assistant Sahel Coordinator by the European Commission’s Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection – ECHO.
The expert will be part of ECHO’s team for West Africa, the support office of which will be based in Dakar, Senegal. He/she will be responsible for assisting wherever ECHO’s operational activities in Sahel region are required. He/she will not only monitor the situation and the needs in the Sahel countries with regard to food insecurity and acute under-nutrition, but also participate to the needs based on resource allocation and to the selection of partners in coherence with the Sahel Strategy as developed in the West Africa HIP.
He/she should also be prepared, to react to a current or evolving crisis in any other region in the world following a request by DG ECHO Brussels.
Qualification requirements:
Language: very good command of French and good command of English.
At least 8 years experience in delivering humanitarian assistance in at least 3 of the following domains:
- Nutrition (mandatory)
- Food security (mandatory)
- Multi-sectorial humanitarian aid programmes
- Post emergency and post conflict rehabilitation
- Livelihood support and income generation
Previous experience in Sub-Saharan Africa is required.
