Gender Lead - Consultant

EQWIP HUBS is a consortium partnership implemented by two international youth development organizations Canada World Youth/Jeunesse Canada Monde (CWY) and Youth Challenge International (YCI). The consortium includes TakingITGlobal (TIG), Education Development Center (EDC) and UN-HABITAT.
Initiative Description:
The project is currently receiving expressions of interest from consultants for a Gender Lead for EQWIP HUBS: Powering Youth Innovation for Sustainable Livelihoods, which will be implemented across six countries. The ultimate goal is to improve the economic and social well-being of poor and marginalized communities in developing countries.
Position Description:
The Gender Lead will be responsible for advising on gender programming and supporting key aspects of project implementation. S/he will ensure that gender-related project outcomes and indicators are being achieved and where not, that programming and activities are adapted as necessary. S/he will establish and maintain positive, collaborative and productive relationships with EQWIP staff and implementing partners.
EQWIP is building a team of energetic, skilled and passionate individuals who are motivated by the prospect of exploring new and creative approaches to solving complex global challenges.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Provide leadership in ensuring gender considerations are integrated into all aspects of programming
§ Provide strategic, operational and representational assistance to ensure that goals and targets are being met, recommending project adjustments when necessary to keep the project on track
§ Cultivate and strengthen relationships with local partner organizations and ensure that implementation is responsive to the needs and contexts of partners and beneficiaries
§ Track and report project progress and activities monthly against work plans
§ Identify and analyze gender issues as well as develop strategies for integrating and mainstreaming gender equality into programming
§ Provide technical support on gender issues and undertake on-the-job training and technical assistance to all partners
§ Maintain a thorough knowledge of youth livelihood issues and a general understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing young people, and especially young women, across countries of operation
§ Assist implementing partners and country teams to analyze the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of existing gender equality programming, to identify gaps, challenges and opportunities
§ Develop, in cooperation with partners and country teams, strategies for each HUB to address the gaps identified in the initial analysis.
§ Support the collection and analysis of sex- and age-disaggregated data and building capacity of partners and country teams in gender sensitive programming
§ Facilitate the inclusion of gender dimensions into needs assessment frameworks and facilitate partners and country teams in planning and implementation of the project activities
§ Provide technical support in the development of relevant advocacy and communication/information materials to address gender equality issues, including support to country management
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
§ 5 – 10 years of progressively responsible experience in women-specific and gender issues, gender planning, gender analysis, gender mainstreaming and promotion of gender equality at national and regional levels
§ Education in social sciences, women and gender studies, or related humanities field with a focus on gender equality and women's rights/empowerment
§ Knowledge, expertise and experience relating to integrating gender equality considerations into youth livelihood programming
§ Strong knowledge of trends, discourse, policy issues and technical experience in areas of gender and development and gender and livelihoods
§ Experience working with government, donors, and civil society
§ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
§ Experience working in collaborative, cross sector environments to facilitate conversations or solve problems among individuals with diverse perspectives
§ A passion and interest in developing, supporting and improving gender equality and considerations in youth focused programming
§ Familiarity with current trends in youth livelihoods programming
§ Enthusiasm for innovating and finding new or improved ways of working
§ Ability to manage competing priorities, work with deadlines and attend to projects and work processes
§ Energetic and collaborative spirit, with the ability to work independently and take initiative, and a willingness to develop new skills on the job
§ Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
