The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are seeking to fill a consultancy position to develop a global Individual Giving Strategy for the WFP Private Sector Partnership team. The contract will be for an initial period of 6 months, with possibility of extension.
Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director, Private Sector Partnerships, and working closely with the Online Fundraising Team, colleagues within the Private Sector Partnerships Division and other units within WFP, as/when necessary, the Consultant will undertake the following tasks:
Develop, refine and drive the internal business case for investment in individual fundraising acquisition, retention and growth:
- Leverage existing internal knowledge plus external individual giving case studies and surveys to support the business case.
- Speak with counterparts at other global humanitarian organizations to gather relevant information such as investment levels, return on investment, individual market experiences, and channel best practices.
Deliverables:
Summary of best practices in individual acquisition, retention and growth
Deck outlining the case for investment (target audience: internal stakeholders/board members) and associated document (summary text of investment case with analysis/spreadsheets)
Test and analyse digital engagement and fundraising tactics with current channels/resources:
- Evaluate the effectiveness of email marketing campaigns and digital engagement initiatives to improve future performance.
- Propose tests of existing techniques and channels (email, text-to-give, social media, etc.) to grow the size and value of the individual donor base, and begin implementation of approved tests, if/when feasible.
- Identify new approaches for successfully upselling individuals (i.e. donors to become monthly donors) and run initial tests to identify best performing methods.
Deliverables:
Summary of lessons learned and recommendations for future improvements
Monthly reporting template for tracking results
Develop individual giving growth strategies for priority markets:
- Identify 5-7 priority markets to target for individual investment.
- Compile research into relevant lessons learned by other global humanitarian agencies who have made individual giving investments in each market.
- Within each market, weigh the costs and benefits of various acquisition channels and make a recommendation for investment.
Deliverables:
Market-specific test investment plans
High/Medium/Low investment and revenue scenarios by market (1-3 years out)
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Advanced university degree in Economics, Fundraising, International Development, Marketing or other relevant discipline.
Experience:
- At least ten years progressively responsible professional experience in individual fundraising, including at least eight years of experience delivering global digital fundraising and/or marketing campaigns.
- Proven ability to coordinate complex, multi-million dollar, multi-currency programmes.
- Demonstrated success managing online giving platforms with implementation experience in multiple markets.
- Experience in individual donor acquisition in core channels to include but not limited to mobile, face-to-face and paid digital media.
- Current and active knowledge of new media and fundraising trends.
- Prior experience with individual strategy development for a global humanitarian agency will be well regarded.

- Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of a second WFP working language is desirable.
