The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Operations Directorate (Ops), at its headquarters in Luxembourg, and potentially also in its network of regional offices:
Investment Analysts/Officers
The EIB Group has been a key partner in unlocking liquidity for European investment projects since the onset of the crisis, providing more than EUR 500bn since 2007. This partnership is set to continue and we are therefore launching a series of preliminary campaigns to identify qualified and highly motivated professionals, keen to join us and to make their contribution to the European recovery.
The term of this contract will be 4 years
The EIB offers fixed-term contracts of up to a maximum of 6 years, according to business needs, with a possibility to convert to a permanent contract subject to organisational requirements and individual performance.
Purpose
The Investment Analyst/Officers will be responsible for the origination, execution, management and monitoring of senior and junior debt and/or equity transactions in particular in the Strategic Infrastructure (digital, transport and energy), Education, Research and Innovation, and SME sectors
Operating network
The successful candidates will report to a Head of Division and collaborate closely with colleagues in the Division, as well as with other teams of the Bank involved in such transactions (e.g. with Legal Services, Risk Management, and the l Projects Directorate). There will also be extensive external contact, in particular with national Promotional Banks and private sector financial institutions.
Accountabilities
Origination process
- Originate/source eligible operations in own sector(s) and/or countries of focus
- Monitor closely his/her respective sectors and/or geographies
- Develop and maintain relationships with existing and future clients in the industry
- Launch and monitor market studies with third parties
Execution process:
- Lead and monitor the appraisal and internal approval process in close collaboration with other related teams in the Front Office, and with other internal counterparts in Risk Management, the Projects Directorate, Legal Services and others, as appropriate
- Work closely with potential clients and the relevant Bank service, in order to develop financing structures that meet EIB Risk and Policy Guidelines on the one hand, and support the clients' financing strategy on the other
- Undertake financial and risk analysis
- Provide guidance on and review due diligence reports (incl. audit and advice on financial models, risk factors and deal structures)
- Prepare risk pricing and deal structuring proposals for the respective counterparts
- Draft financial reports and lending proposals in cooperation with the Project Team and facilitate the approval process
- Select and manage external due diligence consultants
- Prepare approval documents for the respective approval authorities.
- Present and defend potential operations in compliance with the approval procedures
- Lead and coordinate negotiations with both external and internal counterparts
Management and monitoring process:
- Follow-up the development of transactions: update credit files and monitor the fulfillment of conditions in coordination with internal services
- In the event of contractual modifications, support structural modifications and contract negotiations in liaison with key external and internal stakeholders in order to maintain the quality of the loan portfolio
New product development and management:
- Steer and advise on the roll-out of new products
- Implement related transactions in close collaboration with other EIB lending teams
- Contribute to the development of necessary middle-office procedures, the selection of intermediaries and market development
- Monitor existing transactions, support financial intermediaries in the management of any related guarantee facilities
- Advise on further new product developments
Qualifications
- University degree, preferably in Finance/Business or any related subject. The CFA qualification would be an advantage
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience in Corporate Banking/Finance and/or High Yield/Sub-Investment Grade Debt and/or Mezzanine Financing and/or Structured Finance
- Experience in the financing of strategic infrastructure (digital, transport and energy), education, research and/or innovation activities would be an asset
- Strong technical expertise in financial analysis/modelling as well as experience in credit risk assessment
- Knowledge of EIB credit and middle office processes and IT systems
- Good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (incl. Visual Basic)
- Excellent knowledge of English and/or French, with a good knowledge of the other (*)
- In-depth knowledge of specific local markets, and fluency in other EU languages, may be a requirement, depending on the countries of operation of the Division recruiting

(*) There may be certain flexibility on this requirement for particularly suitable candidates who may not yet be proficient in French. If selected, such candidates will be hired on the condition that they build up rapidly knowledge of French and accept that their future career in the EIB may be subject to the attainment of sufficient proficiency in both of the Bank's working languages.
