Urban Development Manager

Who we are looking for
Managing rapid urbanisation around the world is a big and complex challenge. As part of our strong commitment to ‘doing business with purpose’ our work helps to shape better patterns of urbanisation that delivers improved economic, social and environmental outcomes. Our team is currently expanding and we are seeking to recruit an experienced and multi-disciplinary urban economist to further develop our capability in both the international development and emerging markets. 
This is a unique opportunity to join an exciting and growing team which works creatively with country government, donors, multilateral institutions and the private sector to solve some of the most important urban challenges faced by rapidly urbanising cities and countries around the world. Our work tackles a range of issues including economic and industrial development, managing economic and spatial growth that reduces poverty, planning more efficient and resilient cities, tackling climate change and fostering social inclusion. The role therefore represents an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious economists and planners with the required skills and experience to join one of the UK’s leading advisory practices.
You will be analytical and a strategic thinker with a broad understanding of urbanisation/economic geography and urban economic development in particular. You will have experience working in developing countries, able to operate in a multi-disciplinary environment and be able to provide insight, modelling, analysis and data manipulation across our team that explores and evidences a diverse range of issues ranging from infrastructure demand modelling to urban poverty assessment.
The role will require you to manage inputs to a range of international projects and initiatives. You will have the ability to travel and to work effectively under pressure as part of a team. Your intellect, enthusiasm, confidence, communication and people skills will all be important factors in finding the right person.

We’re recruiting at Senior Associate and Manager level
Senior Associates:
  • Lead analysis and project management of our work on urbanisation and economic development policy, strategy and analytics.
  • Create and construct innovative approaches to solve client challenges working with big data, GIS and economic models.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project deliverables, client presentations, reports and pitch documents.
  • Work in collaboration with specialist firms and contractors including academia.
  • Act as a coach and mentor to junior team members to help them develop their technical and analytical skills.
  • Conduct and supervise internal quality reviews of work undertaken by others, as part of PwC risk and quality procedures.
Managers:
In addition to the above, Managers will:
  • Build their own relationships and work independently with key clients on urban projects.
  • Lead analysis and project management of our work on urbanisation and economic development policy,
  • strategy and analytics.
  • Manage teams of people (including teams from other lines of service) to pursue business opportunities and deliver projects, while liaising with a wide range of counterparties.
  • Act as a coach and mentor to junior team members to help them develop their technical and interpersonal skills
Requirements
We would expect interested applicants to be able to demonstrate the following:
Qualifications and experience:
  • Applicants must have a university degree (preferably at Masters Level) in either urban economics, regional/ town/unbar planning, local economic development, economics, international development or public policy with a specific  urban and quantitative focus.
  • Applicants should have demonstrable professional and project experience in the cities/infrastructure/urban sectors, such as planning and business cases for major infrastructure or master-planning, urban policy or economic development planning.
  • Applicants must have international experience in a range of countries, with particular preference for experience in sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and South Asia.
  • Experience of working with donors, international financial institutions, and/or private foundations in the international development sector is highly desirable.
  • Experience working any of the following topic areas would strengthen your application: Masterplanning, regeneration, climate change, local carbon planning, climate and disaster resilience, project or municipal finance.
