We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the Sustainability Research Institute, http://www.see.leeds.ac.uk/research/sri/ , to lead research on agricultural value chains, sustainability standards and collective action by farmers and workers, particularly in an African context. This role also provides the opportunity for collaborative research working as part of the successful Environment and Development and Business and Organisations for Sustainable Societies research groups within SRI linked with academic, policy, private sector and NGO partners across UK and Africa.
This post will initially involve work on existing and emerging projects including resilience in agri-food supply chains (BURNS), farmer organisational models, fair trade and sustainability standards. It will include opportunities to engage with key stakeholders in the field in the UK and Africa including in the fair trade movement, the Co-operative movement and donor organisations as well as academic research partners across a range of disciplines in the sciences and social sciences. There is potential for overseas research visits and conference participation in both the UK and overseas, for example based on links in Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia.
This post links to an ongoing programme of research co-ordinated by Dr Anne Tallontire. There will be opportunities to undertake a limited amount of teaching in the following programmes BA Environment and Business, BSc Sustainability and Environmental Management, MSc Sustainability and Business http://www.see.leeds.ac.uk/admissions-and-study/ providing the chance to build teaching, research, communication and project management skills.
Candidates should hold or be expected to shortly be awarded a PhD in sustainability, development studies or a related field and have experience in publishing research in peer-reviewed journals. The post-holder will have experience of qualitative social science research, including overseas fieldwork, and an interest in maximising societal benefits from social science research through collaborative partnerships with third sector organisations. A willingness to travel to parts of sub-Saharan Africa to conduct field research or participate in workshops for approximately a month at a time is essential. Experience of working in interdisciplinary and multi-cultural teams is highly desirable.
