The Research Director leads research in several (2-3) selected research topics contributing into the 5-year scientific strategy of the organization with the goal to become one of the world leading DOC Research Institutes focused on inter-cultural and inter-civilizational dialogue development and conflict prevention as well as global transnational infrastructure development.

Your tasks:
Scientific Strategy and Research Process:
- Coordinate large-scale research projects and to supervise research activities, including the knowledge of major web search engines that index the full text or metadata of scholarly literature and other publications
- Managing key networks and relationships, demonstrating an appropriate balance between empowerment, support and assertiveness
- Development of dissemination strategy to circulate the research products of the Department to the academic, policy and media community
- Assistance to Scientific Director in developing scientific strategy of the DOC Research Institute under the supervision of Program Council;
- Implementation of the scientific strategy with a particular focus on research, publishing activity and program development;
- Performing of the research projects and initiatives related to the Topics in accordance with the timeline and within the approved budget.
DOC Research Institute’s Representation:
- Representation of the Organization’s research related to the Topics at international conferences and other events, liaising closely with external bodies/experts both within the EU and non-EU countries;
- Enhancement of organization’s position as a thought leader and discussion forum for sustainable global development enrooted in human civilizations’ cultural heritage and diversity;
- Participation in the activities of NGOs, including attending all meetings (internal and external) requested by the Scientific Director;
- Representation of the DOC Research Institute at regional, national and international committees, working groups and conferences requested by the Scientific Director.
- Events Organization
- Implementation of the scientific program for the Rhodes forum and other DOC Research Institute’s key events according to the established internal policies and procedures, deadlines; Along with the other Research Director.
General Management:
- Team building and development of effective network between permanent staff and remote researchers in both Berlin and Moscow offices ensuring their cooperation;
- Drafting the Annual Scientific-Expert Activities Report of the Research Department with respect to the Topics;
- Quarterly referential statistics on publications regarding to the Topics;
- Ensuring the Senior Researchers, Research Associates and Research Assistants cooperation for realization of the Organization’s scientific goals according to the scientific strategy; and that all research projects and initiatives are implemented in accordance with timeline and within given budgetary limits;
- Ongoing review of activities and adjusting projects and initiatives in order to maximize the quality of outputs.
Requirements:
- Advanced university degree (Master's degree, Ph.D.) in Economics and/or Political Science
- More than 5 years in research and scientific work
- Functioning as successful research group leader and representative of the Organization’s vision & idea
- Solid background in Economics & Political Sciences; extensive research experience
- Experience working with a variety of public, private, and non-profit organizations
- Significant international network of contacts (academia, think-tanks, NGOs)
- Experience in project management, policy advice, as well as in handling the project funds
- Demonstrable experience and skills in building positive and productive relationships, with colleagues and other stakeholders
Strong dialogical skills:
- Strong corporate ethos and effective team member, able to achieve an appropriate balance between scientific interests and organization-wide interests
- Proficiency in English language, knowledge of at least one other language (Chinese, Arabic, French, German) is an advantage
- Strong organizational, teamwork, time-management and problem-solving skills
- Broad and unconventional world outlook
- Proven ability to coordinate large-scale research projects and to supervise research activities, including the knowledge of major web search engines that index the full text or metadata of scholarly literature and other publications
- An effective approach to managing key networks and relationships, demonstrating an appropriate balance between empowerment, support and assertiveness
- Strong corporate ethos and effective team member, able to achieve an appropriate balance between scientific interests and organization-wide interests
- An open and participative style with excellent leadership/communication skills
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally, devising an overarching expert strategy, directing
- the research activities in connection with overall Organization’s strategic plan, and securing the delivery of outputs (e.g. reports, analyses, opinions, notes).
