Applications are invited for a full-time Research Associate to work on a project entitled, ‘Deepening governance and widening ‘spaces’ for change: community participation and natural resource transparency in post-conflict West Africa’ that is being funded by Humanity United. The post will provide an exciting opportunity for an early career scholar to join a thriving community of researchers in the field of international development at the University of Bath.
This fixed-term research position requires expertise in the field of natural resources and development. First-hand experience of conducting research or working in low income countries, preferably West Africa, would be an asset.  Knowledge and understanding of the artisanal and small-scale mining sector would also be desirable.
The successful candidate will be flexible and highly motivated, and able to spend 12 months in West Africa (Liberia and Sierra Leone) carrying out fieldwork. You will also be expected to contribute to data analysis and archiving, undertake authorship and co-authorship of publications, and be involved in conference presentations. Applicants should hold a PhD on a relevant topic in the field of international development and have experience of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Applications from developing countries are particularly encouraged.
