Teaching Fellow in Lusophone African History and Culture

Summary
The Department of History seeks to appoint a Teaching Fellow in Lusophone African History and Culture, tenable for twelve months from 1 September 2016. Applications are welcome from candidates with scholarly interests in the early modern and modern history and culture of the Lusophone African world, and the ability to teach a range of modules in this and related areas. The post-holder will contribute to the teaching both of the History Department and of the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies (SPLAS), covering the core duties of Dr Toby Green, who has been awarded an AHRC Leadership Fellowship for the coming academic year. In History, the postholder is likely to be asked to teach modules on the history of Lusophone Africa and on the origins of economic underdevelopment in Africa, as well as contributing to a final-year undergraduate thematic module on ‘Diasporas’, and our first-year introductory module. They may also make a contribution to MA teaching. In SPLAS teaching will include the final-year module Cross-Cultural Exchanges between Africa and the Americas, 16th-20th Centuries and leading a seminar group for the compulsory first-year module Global Iberias: Introduction to the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking Worlds. The postholder will also contribute to the administration and pastoral provision of both units.
Details
All candidates should have scholarly interests in the history and culture of Lusophone Africa, and enthuisam for teaching this subject, and related areas, at university level. They should normally have completed a PhD in this area by the date of appointment.
This post will be based at the Strand Campus – WC2R 2LS.
The closing date for receipt of applications is 21 March 2015.

Salary
The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications, within the Grade 6 scale, currently £32,600 to £ 38,898, per annum plus £2,323 per annum London Allowance.
Post duration
Fixed term contract for 12 months.
