The position is to be filled as soon as possible and has an initial contract term running until 14.05.2015. Deployment location is Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Taking the security situation into account, travel for work will be required.
Aims and duties of the position
As WASH Specialist you are responsible for the planning, implementation and supervision of the WASH projects of Welthungerhilfe in the Democratic Republic of Congo in cooperation with the country office and the project management.
Your most important duties:
- Planning, coordination and conceptual development of WASH activities
- Consultation and quality control of the WASH activities of partner organisations in IDP camps and villages in North Kivu
- Budget responsibility for the WASH component of the projects
- Active participation in WASH clusters
- Ensuring coordination and cooperation with international and national NGOs
- Monitoring and evaluation of project activities
- Ensuring regular reporting
As a qualified applicant you will possess the following:
- A university or polytechnical degree, ideally in the field of water management and/or
- agricultural science, or a comparable relevant technical qualification with several years of professional experience
- Experience in the field of rural development, in particular infrastructure measures (WASH)
- Several years of project experience in the implementation of co-financed projects of
international (aid) organisations, ideally in this region - Coordination and organisational skills, including ability to work under pressure and in
difficult local conditions - Ability to cooperate and work well in a team
- A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
- Good level of written and spoken French and English, a good knowledge of German is an advantage
