Abt Associates seeks a versatile, energetic Senior Communications Specialist for the West Africa Trade Hub project, based in Ghana.
Working closely with the COP, Home Office Communications Manager, and other project staff, the Senior Communications Specialist will lead the project’s external communications initiatives, supervise report preparation, and support knowledge management. The specialist will help the project reach a broad range of audiences, including the US Agency for International Development, a range of private sector groups (trade associations, global buyers, international investors), public sector partners (West African national and regional governments), and civil society (media and advocacy organizations). The ideal candidate will be able to pivot between various tasks, including preparing reports and presentations for USAID/stakeholders, and training project staff/partner organizations in better communications.
The position is planned to begin as soon as possible and last for two years, with options to extend longer.
Job Responsibilities
- Manage the project’s major communications initiatives, including presentations to the client and stakeholders, the project website, quarterly success stories, various brochures and pamphlets, video, social networking platforms and media outreach.
- Work with the capacity building specialist to support behavior change strategies, including to boost the communications capacity of regional industry associations.
- Work with the Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist to support information collection from various project activities
- Help prepare project reports, using standardized report templates aligned with USAID branding guidelines.
- Maintain databases of project documents.
Skills Prerequisites
- Fluency in English and French is required. The successful candidate will have excellent written and spoken English and French skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate, and correctly formatted documents.
- Advanced degree in media/communications and at least three years’ experience in media and communications preferred.
- Experience in communications in Africa and/or with a USAID project.
- Expertise in new media, developing social platforms and incorporating communications technologies into development programs.
- Experience with geographic information presentation platforms, such as Google maps, to demonstrate project intervention locations and salient information for the site and activity
- Ability to work with multiple cultures and countries in West Africa.
- Familiarity with West African culture and economic issues.
- Willingness to travel within the region.
Minimum Qualifications BA with 6 - 8 years of experience OR MA/MBA (3) years of experience OR PhD (Entry Level) OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
