Save the Children’s origins lie in emergency response, and this has remained central to our work ever since. Our approach integrates our emergency and development work, through the medium of our country programmes. With the increasing frequency and severity of emergencies worldwide the organisation is increasing its capacity to support programmes in both sudden onset and chronic emergency situations. Our Emergency Response Personnel (ERP) play a key part with Save the Children’s humanitarian strategy. Members of the ERP scheme are active members of Save the Children’s UK’s humanitarian department, and contribute to organisational learning and help build organisation capacity to respond effectively to emergencies worldwide.
About the role
The ERP Safety and Security Adviser will work closely with both Country Directors and Regional Security Directors (RSDs) to carry out safety and security assessments; make recommendations and provide support for their implementation by country programmes. The ERP Safety and Security Adviser will facilitate the implementation of Save the Children’s Safety and Security policies and procedures within country programmes and help drive systemic change in the quality of safety and security management and contribute to building country compliance with safety and security-related Essential Standards. While on assignment the ERP will play a key role in the capacity building of Safety and Security Focal Points.
About you
You will be highly competent in current safety and security practices and issues affecting aid work globally. You are working or have previously worked as an NGO Security Adviser or similar. Having worked in hostile environments you have developed a highly proactive attitude with the ability to work autonomously in highly stressful and challenging contexts. You can competently undertake security risk assessments and have the ability to train multi-national staff of varying technical capacities. You are flexible and ready to be deployed 80% of your time.Applications are open to all candidates, but French speakers in particular are encouraged to apply.

What we offer in return
In return we are offering a salary of GDP31,475 per annum + GDP2,500 hardship allowance. ERPs will receive 35 days Annual Leave per year; medical insurance while on deployment; travel and accommodation provided for; based in home country; paid R&R; Gross salary paid from UK plus hardship allowance; complexity allowance and expensive posting allowance where applicable.
About the recruitment process
- Candidates will be required to do a short test, followed by an interview.
- Interviews should take place w/c 27 April or w/c 4 May
- We will run an international police check on our successful candidate that will take up to 8 weeks. The successful candidate won't be able to start before this is completed.
