BACKGROUND ON THE PROJECT
For this requirement CTG Global is required to provide Foreign Medical Teams (FMT) in support of our clients efforts to control EVD via Sierra Leone Community Care Centres. Staff will be required to provide clinical management functions within Community Care Centres across Sierra Leone.
EVD transmission remains intense in Sierra Leone, there is therefore a continued need for support and response to Ebola outbreaks. Community Care Centres will be embedded in communities and fulfil a central role, enabling patients to present and be tested before transferring to Treatment Units following a positive result. The level of care offered inside the Community Care Centres, while basic, will encourage families to bring loved ones forward for isolation.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Education
· Professionally Licensed Paramedic (authorizing body must be cited)
· At least 5 years of experience working in an emergency medical setting in an advanced life support (ALS) role.
· Basic understanding of adult learning concepts and the development and delivery of emergency medical training courses (including scenario based training)
Work Experience
o Provide daily 24hrs emergency medical coverage for CCC staff
o Support the development of the emergency medicine capacity of the medical facilities
o Provide ongoing emergency first aid training to CCC staff
o Assist with planning for response to a mass casualties and medical evacuation
o Develop emergency medical training initiatives
o Perform medical briefing for incoming staff
Scope of work/expected output
o Provide 24/7 emergency medical intervention to all staff
o Conduct medical training sessions involving local capacity building for health institution and general first aid training for CCC staff.
o Assist with mass casualty training/exercises.
o Assist in drafting and updating mass casualty and medical evacuation plans.
Monitoring and Progress Controls
Paramedics will provide a weekly and monthly morbidity report which will include the following information:
o Training Activities Conducted
o Upcoming Training Activities
o Medical Capacity Building Projects
o Update on Equipment and Supplies
o Medical Evacuations
o Patient Assessments Conducted (spread sheet format)
Key Competencies
· Ability to work unassisted in remote locations and perform interventions without supervision.
· Recognise symptoms of EVD and respond appropriately
· Administer emergency first aid/ interventions as required
· Use basic airway adjuncts such as OPA, NPA
· Provide airway suctioning
· Perform emergency endotracheal intubation and manual (or mechanical) ventilation (IPPV and APPV)
· Perform pharmacologically assisted intubation
· Provide ongoing monitoring using ECG, SpO2 and End tidal CO2 monitoring equipment
· Pharmacologically treat medical emergencies
· Administer narcotic analgesia
· Manage chest pain of cardiac nature using appropriate pharmacological intervention
· Provide appropriate intervention (including pharmacological intervention) for unstable symptomatic patients the following dysrhythmias: ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, electromechanical dissociation, asystole, bradycardia, supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation/flutter with rapid ventricular response, premature ventricular complexes, accelerated idioventricular rhythms, bizarre/unknown rhythms.
· Provide appropriate intervention for patient with inadequate perfusion associated with cardiac chest pain
· Provide intravenous and intra-osseous infusion
· Emergency airway – needle Cricothyrotomy
· Use of Asherman dressing (or similar) for open pneumothorax injury
