Organizational Setting and Reporting
These positions are located within the African Union/United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID). The Movement Control Assistant will be based in El Fasher. The Movement Control Assistant report to the Chief of Section, Movement Control.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Movement Control Assistant will carry out the following duties:
  • Supervise the receiving and shipping of cargo to ensure that quantities, destination, and routing are correct.
  • Ensure that paperwork is correct and the items are loaded safely and correctly.
  • Ensure that aircraft are loaded in accordance with passenger and cargo load plans.
  • Ensure that incoming luggage/cargo is handed over to the respective passenger and/or delivered in accordance with the manifest.
  • Inform passengers of aviation safety requirements prior to embarkation.
  • Liaise with local authorities for custom and immigration issues.
  • Coordinate with the Air Operations Centre, Tower, Ramp Controllers and Aviation Safety personnel at the airport.
  • Compile manifests.
  • Provide flight schedules, route and timing information.
  • Ensure that dangerous goods are transported in accordance with the applicable international dangerous goods regulations.
  • Monitor the movement of cargo, record and maintain all relevant details related thereto.
  • Record passenger and cargo statistics.
  • Supervise passenger clerks and cargo handlers to ensure that all movements of personnel, goods and equipment are carried out in accordance with the UN rules, regulations and safety procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates and budgets related to movements and in the verification and processing of movement-related invoices.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Education
High school or equivalent diploma is required. Technical or vocational certificate in movement control, multi-modal transportation, airline operations, logistics management or a related field is desirable.
Work Experience
At least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in movement control, freight forwarding, airline operations, logistics management or a related field.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the positions advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
Assessment Method
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
