Social Enterprises Associate

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: 
Nuru International is a 501(c)(3) organization that plans to make a significant impact in the fight against extreme poverty. Nuru's goal is to bring lasting hope to those struggling to break free from the chains of extreme poverty around the world. Nuru helps impoverished, rural communities to lift themselves out of extreme poverty in a sustainable way within five years through a holistic community development model.
ABOUT THE JOB: 
Nuru International  is seeking a Social Enterprises Associate. S/he will be responsible for identifying market opportunities, assisting business units in meeting regulatory requirements, creating presentations, outlining key risks, legal, and regulatory hurdles, and forecasting business growth.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Income generation and budgeting:
    • Support annual budget process, as well as monthly and quarterly reconciliations;
    • Help build NESE budget, including yearly budgeting process and budget reforecasting;
    • Meet goals of income generating activities of Nuru Social Enterprises.
  • Planning:
    • Update five year models for business lines, adapt initial plans for new research and knowledge gained on the ground, as well as research and develop model for one new business idea;
    • Research and implement at least one pilot in 2015 (either poultry or animal feed);
    • Become subject matter expert on at least two business lines, understand key profitability drivers, have risk mitigation plan in place.
  • Design and implementation:
    • Research other similar organizations (in Ethiopia) for potential thought partners and for organization benchmarking;
    • Create metrics (other than the financial sustainability ratio) and design and manage a dashboard for Nuru Social Enterprises to measure performance;
    • Research and implement systems and processes for financials and operations to streamline processes and prevent theft and inefficiencies.
  • Training and development:
    • Co-work with SE associate to build financial analyses including: joint venture analysis, cash flow modeling, valuations, investment analyses (IRRs, sensitivity tables, etc.) for opportunities;
    • Value and build marketing and branding strategy for Nuru Social Enterprises;
    • Conduct effective turnover to future SE associate, as needed.
Qualifications:
  • BBA required (MBA or JD is strongly preferred);
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in relevant field;
  • Prior involvement working with banks or financial consulting firms, with analysis of new business opportunities;
  • Internal and external negotiations experience;
  • Strong project manager: ability to drive multiple high profile projects forward, effective leverage of all resources to drive results, ability to create excellent processes;
  • Superior financial modeling and business plan writing;
  • Well-honed written, verbal, and creative communication skills, including ability to translate insight into content and create slide or written presentations;
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with an ability to clearly define strategic issues;
  • Adapt easily to rapidly changing work environments, and operate effectively in high-stress situations.
