Occupational Health Nurse

The Joint World Bank/IMF Health Services Department (HSD) seeks applications for a locally recruited Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) to support the Regional Medical Advisors (HRMAs) located in Kenya and South Africa. Each HRMA covers 10-12 countries in East and Southern Africa respectively.  FHS and HRMAs are members of the Health Services Department (HSD). The mission of the Joint Bank/Fund Health Services Department (HSD) is to serve the staff and management of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund by promoting good health and contributing to a healthy work environment. Full respect of medical ethics, including confidentiality, is the key value shared by HSD staff to achieve the department's goals.
Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 1 year term appointment.

Duties and Accountabilities:
The functions of the Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) include but are not limited to:
1. Advisory role to the Country Offices - OHN under the supervision of HRMAs will advise the Country Office managers and staff  within his/her designated region, on health related matters (such as occupational health, travel medicine, medical briefings, health promotion and wellness activities, etc.);
2. Coordination and Management of medical evacuation - OHN will act as a focal point for managing and providing administrative assistance in the case of medical evacuation for staff and dependents. This includes direct communication and coordination with multiple players such as medical insurance administrators, Medical Assistance Company, evacuee and family, Benefits, etc. OHN will oversee the progress of the evacuation with the Medical Assistance Company;
3. Perform Medical Duty Officer Responsibilities on rotating basis to manage after hours emergencies. Although supervision by the HRMA will usually be available, the OHN needs to be able to function independently when needed, exercising strong clinical judgment and reliability;
4. Coordination of care of chronic cases - Under the supervision of HRMAs, OHN will be responsible for overseeing the medical care of staff and dependents suffering from chronic severe diseases in the Country Offices. This includes maintaining an electronic medical dossier on all patients, obtaining medical reports from the treating physicians, ensuring appropriate follow-up if necessary, ensuring that patient is following treatment plan and anticipating the potential need for care outside of country of residence;
5. Health Promotion – OHN will assist Health Promotion Partners in some key countries in organizing some health events, including annual medical screening at the workplace. OHN will select key countries with the HRMAs. OHN will be responsible for communicating and briefing the medical providers selected to offer the medical screening, for developing/adjusting the data collection template, for briefing the staff and answering their questions, and for presenting the statistical findings to HSD. OHN will also participate in the design of a targeted health promotion strategy.
6. Develop and maintain contacts inside/outside the organization (Benefits, Global Mobility, Security, etc.) to share ideas, materials, and develop partnerships;
7. Assist in the implementation of WBG/IMF Global Medical Emergency Response Plan;
8. Monitor and evaluate the HSD Field Health program by participating in data analysis and identification of actionable items; 9. Perform international mission travel to assess medical emergency response, health promotion, healthcare facilities and occupational health concerns;
10. Assistance to Regional Medical Advisors
• Provide administrative travel/mission support to Regional Medical Advisors in Africa;
• Assist Regional Medical Advisors with data collection of program implementation indicators in the Africa Region, with budget/cost monitoring and maintenance of databases;
Additional responsibilities may be assigned in accord with the individual’s education, training and experience.
Reporting:  This position reports directly to the Regional medical Advisor based in Nairobi.
It is important to note that this is an advisory position, and the Occupational Health Nurse will not be providing direct health care to staff or dependents.
Medical Records and Confidentiality: Occupational Health Nurse must enter accurate and timely accounts of all medical information into the electronic medical record system.  S/he will adhere to the confidentiality standards set forth in the policies of the World Bank.

Qualification and Requirements:
• At a minimum a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school with at least 8 years of post-graduation professional clinical experience;
• An advanced degree in nursing (Nurse Practitioner, Masters in Nursing, Masters in Public Health) from an accredited school, or equivalent professional credentials combined with relevant education and experience;
• Experience working in occupational health settings desirable;
• Experience working in disease management desirable;
• Overseas work experience would be a plus;
• Valid and current Registered Nurse licensure;
• Demonstrated participation in Continuous Professional Development/CME, relevant seminars;
• Willingness to travel in the Eastern and Southern Africa Sub regions, or to other areas as required;
• Experience with health promotion, including organizing preventive screenings, desired;
• English proficiency is required. Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to convey ideas simply and in an engaging style;
• Fluency in French or Portuguese (oral and written) would be an advantage;
• Knowledge and ability to counsel staff on health-related issues in a culturally sensitive manner;
• Ability to deal confidently and in a professional manner with staff members at all levels within the Bank. Discretion and tact in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive medical information;
• Thorough knowledge and use of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Outlook, Internet software and the ability to help organize data and information retrieval systems;
• Highly effective and proven skills in organizing, prioritizing, scheduling, planning and coordinating work. Project management experience desirable;
• Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with team members and partners in Country Offices;
• Good analytical skills.
