Digital Forensics Investigations Officer P2
Short Term contract
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. We are seeking to fill the position of Digital Forensics Investigations Officer at the P2 level, which will be based in the organization's Office of Inspections and Investigations (OIGI) at our Headquarters in Rome, Italy. Within delegated authority, the Digital Forensics Investigations Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
- Provide digital forensic services including recovery and acquisition of evidence from IT equipment, preservation and management of evidence using best industry practice during investigation and archiving;
- Analysis of evidence including device data extraction, recovery of corrupt data, electronic mail extraction and database examination;
- Perform regular data mining and data analytical procedures using appropriate tools (e.g. Intella) to assist in investigations, including regular data mining to highlight potential fraudulent activity.
- Assist in the interpretation of the results of such procedure;
- Perform comprehensive technical analysis and interpret computer-related evidence such as e-mail, various databases, and information stored on electronic devices using forensic tools and methods;
- Document the chain of custody process for forensic evidence, as well as evidence acquisition and analysis methods;
- Plan and implement electronic discovery, computer forensic investigations, and related services for large data sets;
- Collect pertinent information related to OIGI cases utilising WFP corporate database, including SAP, and available public databases;
- Review the collected data along with OIGI case materials, analyse the data and produce comprehensive analytical reports;
- Act in specific cases as second investigator as requested by Team Leader/Director/Designee;
- Maintain knowledge in IT and digital industry standard tools, policies and practices as they pertain to investigation work in order to identify any shortcomings or potential for improvement and advise OIGI management accordingly;
- Assist in training and support of users of technology and systems, such as audio/videoconferences, meetings, databases, networks, etc.;
- Maintain OIGI forensic systems and equipment by carrying out regular tasks, such as backing up data, monitoring network and systems, and peripherals, running systems diagnostics, patch management and system optimization, replenishment of consumables, etc.;
- Ensure the appropriate level of investment is maintained to guarantee the optimal functionality of the OIGI digital forensics capacity.
- Administer user access to systems and databases, monitor system and application usage;
- Liaise with the WFP IT unit as and when necessary;
- Review on an ongoing basis and in light of industry best practice the security of investigation information held by OIGI; and
- Carry out any other duty as instructed by the OIGI Director and/or the Inspector General.
Results Expected
The Digital Forensics Investigations Officer will be under the supervision of the OIGI Director and will assist OIGI Investigation Officers in carrying out investigation activities. The person selected will participate as a team member on investigations under the guidance of a lead Investigation Officer and with a certain degree of independence. The Digital Forensics Investigations Officer is expected to:

Qualifications & Experience Required
Education:
- University degree in a related area or equivalent combination of industry qualifications, education and relevant experience; and relevant professional certification in the field of digital forensics.
Experience:
- At least three years of experience in digital forensic investigations and evidence handling, e-discovery processes and data analysis with an international organisation, a law enforcement agency, law firm, multinational company, professional services firm or similar environment;
- Demonstrated knowledge of the latest digital forensic techniques (acquisition and analysis) applied to hard drives, electronic devices such as mobile phones, networking and encryption, principles and techniques of computer security investigation, etc.);
- Demonstrated knowledge of data analytics tools and processes to assist in data mining of WFP systems; and demonstrated knowledge of digital forensic tools, methodologies and protocols;
- Demonstrated familiarity with United Nations justice system is highly desirable.

- Written and oral proficiency in English. Preferably a good working knowledge of Arabic or one of the following: French, Chinese, Russian and Spanish. Knowledge of other languages would be an asset.
Travel:
- The position is based in Rome HQ and the work will be mostly confined to the Rome HQ. However, occasional travels on ad hoc basis and of irregular frequency may be required to our Field Operations, which are located in over 70 countries in the world, mainly in developing countries.
