OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : - To establish within a period of 12-15 years an effective and sustainable Community-Directed Ivermectin Treatment throughout the endemic areas within the geographic scope of the programme, develop the evidence base and assist countries to determine when and where ivermectin treatment can be stopped, and, if possible, in selected and isolated foci to eradicate the vector by using environmentally safe methods. The attainment of this objective is expected to contribute towards the elimination of Onchocerciasis as a disease of public health and socio-economic importance throughout Africa and so contribute to improving the welfare of its people. - Objective of the unit is to ensure sound and effective strategy management of APOC, Public relation and support to the fiscal Agent in resource mobilization. | |
Description of duties: - Support APOC Management in designing advocacy tools and strategies for improved external relations and resources mobilization; - Develop knowledge and skills for the empowerment of individuals, Advocate for political and financial support to create an enabling environment for the implementation; - Undertake process documentation of programme activities including operational research and documentation of best practices - Facilitate information sharing and creation of networks for the promotion/promote partnerships, Newborn and fostering working relationship and coordinating publicity opportunities with the Goodwill Ambassador issues; - Writing/assist in wiring press releases; - Develop advocacy and communication strategies for resource mobilization; - Undertake mission with World Bank to raise and secure financing for APOC from current and potential donors; - Liaise between the Programme Manager and different unit, Sponsoring Agencies, and donors on matters related to the Programme; - Organize and report on meetings of CSA and TCC and advise the APOC Management and CSA. | |

Education: Essential: Master degree in health related communications or social sciences Desirable: Experience in health promotion or community health development | |
Skills: Broad knowledge in health communication, community mobilization or public health. Ability to adapt and work harmoniously with people from diverse cultural settings and backgrounds. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationship at national, regional and international levels. Data management and computer skills in word-processing and electronic communication technology. Experience: Essential: At least 7 years Work experience in international setting in health communication/ social mobilization/advocacy Desirable: Previous experience in working with advocacy or community development | |
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English or French and a working knowledge of the other. Working knowledge of Portuguese will be an advantage | |
Annual salary: (Net of tax) USD 67611 at single rate USD 72605 with primary dependants | Post Adjustment: 48.5 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation. |
