OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME : The objective of the programme is to contribute to the reduction of mortality and morbidity mainly from Acute respiratory infections, Diarrhoea, Malaria, Malnutrition, HIV and Neonatal conditions in children under 5 years of age with emphasis on improving quality of care, pediatric HIV and Pre service training and to improve Adolescent Health. The specific responsibilities of the post are to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate newborn, child and adolescent health policies, strategies and plans which will contribute to the scaling up of child and adolescent health interventions aimed at improving the health status of under-fives and adolescents. | |
Description of duties: Under the leadership, strategic and managerial oversight of his/her first level supervisor, the IST Coordinator, ESA and with technical backup from HPR cluster (CAN Programme Area) the incumbent will have the following general responsibilities: 1. Provide technical support to countries in East and Southern Africa for increased capacity in the delivery of high impact child survival and adolescent health interventions in the communities, the first level health facilities and referral facilities with emphasis on improving access to and quality of care, pediatric HIV,adolescent health and Pre service training; 2. Collaborate with partners and other programmes e.g. Malaria, HIV, Immunization, Maternal and Reproductive Health, Nutrition and Health Systems Strengthening in implementing child and adolescent health priority activities; 3. Contribute to the development and/or introduction of new approaches, methods and practices in scaling up child and adolescent health interventions; 4. Support the strengthening of monitoring and evaluation of progress in child and adolescent health in the sub region and disseminate results and best practices to countries for effective health service delivery; 5. Prepare and submit quarterly reports to the IST Coordinator on strategic activities performed; 6. Perform any other duties as required by the IST Coordinator. | |
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS | |
Education: *Essential : Medical Degree from a recognized university with post graduate degree in pediatrics and/or public health. *Desirable: Post-graduate Education in child survival strategies and programmes, project management,health management, research, capacity building. | |
Skills: Excellent technical knowledge of child survival/health interventions and programmes and health system issues and related disciplines. Ability to acquire sound knowledge of WHO rules, regulations and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain good relations in a multi culture environment. | |
Experience: Essential : At least seven years of experience at national and international levels in managing child and adolescent health services; At least three years of work experience on child and adolescent health service delivery, program design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and research. Desirable : Experience of working with WHO or other UN Agencies, training and research institutions at international level. | |
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English or French and a working knowledge of the other. | |
Annual salary: (Net of tax) USD 67611 at single rate USD 72605 with primary dependants | Post Adjustment: 52.4 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation. |
