Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives, New York/London

I. TechnoServe Background:

II. Position Description:
An important element of TechnoServe's 5-year Strategic Plan (2013-2017), involves strengthening our corporate partnerships. This is based on the recognition that large corporations have tremendous potential to leverage and scale TechnoServe's work and will become increasingly important partners for securing public sector funding. The Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives will report to the Director, Strategic Initiatives, and work in collaboration with TechnoServe' s various field units and Development Division to grow TechnoServe's corporate portfolio and public-private partnerships. This will involve leading engagements with corporate partners and also providing technical and operational assistance to field programs. The Senior Manager is expected to be proficient in a specific sector and geography.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Structure or support structuring analytical engagements for corporate partners that may include developing sustainability strategies, reviewing supply chains and creating local economic development programs
  • Project manage strategy engagements including frequent and independent contact with corporate partners
  • Conduct in-depth studies, including data analysis and modeling to identify strategic opportunities in specific countries, sectors or value chains for corporate partners
  • Develop and deliver presentations to corporate and internal audiences
  • As requested, analyze global development challenges or successes to improve performance of Strategic Initiatives
  • As appropriate, assist with project design, proposal preparation and ongoing technical support for implementation projects
  • Liaise, collaborate and knowledge-share with other parts of the organization to ensure impact of TechnoServe's work
  • Participate and/or lead business development and proposal writing
  • Additional duties as assigned
III. Required Skills & Experience:
  • Advanced degree in business management or other relevant field preferred
  • 7-10 years of experience with BS/BA or 5-7 years with Masters working in top tier consulting firm or similar
  • Experience working with non-profit/International NGO organizations and field-based experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively service clients/partners, particularly in the for-profit sector
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, teamwork and relationship building
  • Proven analytical and financial modeling skills
  • Excellent oral & written presentation skills required
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Ability to work independently, flexibly and responsively
  • Able to adapt to changing working conditions
  • Able to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Travel internationally and domestically up to 50% of time.
