Organizational Context
The temporary post is located in the Operations Division of the Madrid Registry, Brands and Designs Sector. The Operations Division is responsible for receiving, processing and registering international trademark applications and associated data.
The incumbent's role is to review the current operational interactions between the International Bureau (IB), applicants and National Offices (NOs) / Regional Offices (ROs) with a view to improving the efficiency and quality of these interactions.
The incumbent works under the supervision of the Director, Operations Division.
Main duties
The incumbent will perform the following principal duties:
  1. Review and map types and forms of inputs received from NOs and outputs sent by the IB and recommend measures for their harmonization and simplification;
  2. Review the information provided by the IB regarding the NOs/ROs procedures makes suggestions on methods and content with a view to providing more user-friendly and harmonized information;
  3. Review information contained on the Madrid Registry web sites and make suggestions on design and content with a view to providing a more user-friendly and harmonized information based for stakeholders;
  4. Gather and analyze information for all NOs and ROs; produce a status report per Office with a comprehensive description of pending issues and suggested areas for improvement;
  5. Establish an improvement plan with defined milestone for selected NOs and ROs to enhance the efficacy of operational processes, in collaboration with supervisor, the Madrid Registry and the Office concerned and provide support for its implementation;
  6. Draft a wide variety of material in support of the above;
  7. Make presentations to Offices, users and third parties on the Madrid System;
  8. Perform other related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: First-level university degree in law, business administration or related field.
Experience: At least three years of professional work experience in the IP field.
Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to integrate the operational, legal, IT and political perspective in the work. Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
Excellent time management and work organization skills.
Ability to explain the rules, regulations and procedures governing the area of work. Highly adaptable to new environments, tasks and demands.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
Languages: Essential: Excellent knowledge of English.
Desirable: Knowledge of other UN official languages, especially French or Spanish.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
47,292 USD
50,420 USD (with primary dependants)
Post adjustment: 90.4 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
Additional Information:
  • Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations. Please note that the salary is composed of the base salary (indicated above as 'Annual/Monthly Salary') + the post adjustment. The post adjustment is designed to compensate the differences in living costs, thereby providing the staff with the same purchasing power at all duty stations. It is expressed as a percentage of the base salary.
  • Temporary appointments are renewable, subject to continuing needs, availability of budget and satisfactory performance with a maximum cumulative length of two years.
