Position Description
We are seeking an experienced geophysical basin modeler to join the Geology Technology Team with our Exploration and Producing Center.
Minimum Requirements
As the successful candidate you will hold a Masters degree or PhD in geology or a closely related subject (e.g., physics or chemistry) from a recognized and approved program.
You will have at least ten years of combined experience in the oil industry and/or in academia related to the application of geological prediction and modeling activities, with at least five years devoted primarily to research and development.
Minimum of 3 years experience in unconventional gas, either shale or tight gas.
You will also have wide experience in exploration geology or reservoir characterization with a focus on basin modeling, geochemistry and integrated regional studies and/or prospect development.
Proficiency is required in basin Modeling software, geochemical analysis techniques and methods.
You will also have a thorough knowledge of risking petroleum system components, timing, maturation and migration modeling is needed, along with an in-depth understanding of fluid properties, particularly gas condensate and volatile oil classifications.
Expertise in integrated geological studies, prospect generation and analysis is required as is familiarity with one or more of the following specializations is desired - gravity and magnetic data interpretation regional tectonics, structural geology, basin modeling, geochemistry, sedimentology and/or sequence stratigraphy.
Excellence in research will be evidenced by the candidate's publications, invited presentations, patents, professional awards and honours, and professional society activities.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both spoken and written are also essential.
Duties & Responsibilities
Take a leadership role in defining approaches to solve problems and to lead longer term technology programs in integrated geochemical and basin modeling studies within a small team environment.
Work with others in the organization to suggest and develop enhancements to current basin modeling technologies and approaches.
Work with the team to design and conduct regional and/or detailed local studies integrating the interpretation of well logs, gravity, magnetic, geochemistry data, temperature data, core descriptions and geophysical data to develop basin models.
Calculate hydrocarbon expulsion volumes, based on source rock quality and thickness estimates, and development of advanced reservoir quality prediction tools, including diagenetic models of cementation.
Model the thermal history of the basin to predict maturation of source rocks and timing of expulsion.
Conduct hydrocarbon migration path studies to identify favourable prospects.
Collect, organize and identify existing geochemical data and formulate recommendations for future analysis programs.
Write concise technical reports, memos and presentations.
Mentor young professionals.
