The African Union Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) is a specialized technical office reporting to the Department of Rural Economy and Agriculture of the African Union Commission (AUC). The Institution is mandated to support and coordinate the improvement and utilization of livestock as a resource for human well-being in the Member States of the African Union and contribute to economic development, particularly in rural areas.
AU-IBAR requests for submission of curriculum vitae (CVs) of expertise in the areas listed below for its Animal Health Unit:
- Animal health policy, strategy, program and project development
- Review and updating of veterinary legislation
- Animal health economics
- Prioritization of animal diseases
- Early warning and remote sensing
- Value chain development and analysis
- Analysis and estimation of livestock contribution to household economy and GDP
- Livestock identification and traceability systems;
- Veterinary education (formal, informal and non-formal) and veterinary curriculum review and development
- Public-Private Partnership in animal health services delivery systems
- Development of animal disease emergency and contingency plans
- Farmer field schools in animal health
- Development of and support to advocacy strategies for increased investment in animal health
- Assessment, strengthening and establishment of epidemiological surveillance networks
- Strengthening one health systems at national and regional levels
- Animal health information systems development and management
- Wildlife and ecosystem health management
- Risk and socio-economic analysis of animal diseases
- Animal welfare
- Strengthening capacity of MS to address animal welfare
- Animal diseases laboratory diagnosis and laboratory SOPs development
- Laboratory capacity assessment and development
- Development Animal diseases control programmes
- Quality assurance and certification of veterinary drugs, vaccines, residues and laboratory
- Training on different fields related to animal health
- Veterinary Public Health and Food safety
- Training/establishment of Community Based Animal Health Services
- Wildlife health/diseases
- Contribution of wildlife to GDP
- Disease management tool and approaches (quarantines, disease free zones, compartments, Commodity Based Trade)
Qualifications and Competencies
Education
Advanced university degree in subject matter.
Experience
- Minimum 10 years working experience in areas associated with the consultancy
- Experience in dealing with senior government and international organization officials
- Good networking skills and ability to maintain positive and constructive dialogue and relationships with key institutions operating on the continent
- Self-starter with the ability to strategically plan own work
- Experience in workshop facilitation
- Very strong writing, analytical and communication skills
- Fluency in spoken and written English, French, Portuguese or Arabic
